We got up early this morning to a light rain, but wanted to get back to the park to hike the Jenny Lake trail to the hidden falls. We arrived around 7:00 and with bear spray hooked into Jerry’s belt, we took off. It was such a cluster the day before, I had to get out of there, but at that time it was nearly empty. We saw bison leaving the park the day before and we saw a large herd of elk this morning as we were returning. It was a light misty rain, and it made the mountains look mysterious. On the way into the Falls, we saw a couple stopped, and they had spotted a black bear on the hillside eating Mountain Ash berries. On the way back there was another bear or maybe the same one, who knows, eating them on the other side of the trail in a different location. We were probably 10 feet away from it and of course it knew we were there, but it didn’t seem to matter because it was gorging itself. I wish this photo was in better focus. Tonight, sitting in our very rustic campground, we heard elk bugling, and the Aspen are beginning to turn. We’ve decided to head south into Utah instead of hurrying back into the Midwest. Thank you for coming with us! The deer was off to the side of the trail.
