World Mental Health Day 2026 | Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change

Everyone's mental health journey is different. Our experiences shape how we think, feel, cope and connect with the world around us.

This World Mental Health Day, we are reflecting on the importance of listening to lived experience and creating spaces where people feel heard without judgement.

Real voices can challenge assumptions, reduce stigma and help us build more compassionate approaches to mental health and wellbeing.

At Insights Psychology, we are committed to listening, understanding and supporting every individual's unique experience.

Children need boundaries. They also need connection. And they absolutely need opportunities to laugh, play and simply enjoy being children.

Love helps children feel secure.
Limits help children understand boundaries and expectations.
Laughter helps create connection, joy and a sense of safety.

Parenting isn't about getting the balance perfect every day.
It's about creating a relationship where your child knows:
"I am loved. I am safe. And my parent will help me understand the boundaries."

If you're finding parenting challenging or struggling with behaviour, boundaries or connection, Leilani at Therapy by Insights can help you understand what's underneath the behaviour and find approaches that work for your family.

Could AAC help your child communicate more confidently?

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) can give children additional ways to express themselves when speech isn’t enough, isn’t reliable, or is difficult for others to understand. It can include signs and gestures, pictures and communication boards, symbols, books and electronic communication devices.

AAC isn’t about replacing speech. It’s about giving a child a voice and more opportunities to communicate, whether that’s expressing a need, making a choice, sharing an idea, or connecting with others.

It can be particularly helpful for children who are non-speaking, minimally speaking, or whose speech is difficult to understand, and the right approach will look different for every child.

Wondering whether AAC could be right for your child?

Our Speech & Language Therapist, Annabel Whitcombe, can help you explore your child’s communication needs and the options available.

How long will Speech & Language Therapy take? The honest answer is... it depends.

Every child’s needs, goals and starting point are different. Some children may need support for a shorter period to work on a specific skill, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy and regular reviews as their needs develop.

The important thing is that therapy should be individualised, goal-led and regularly reviewed.

Progress isn’t always linear, and the aim is to support meaningful communication rather than work towards an arbitrary finish date.

Our Speech & Language Therapist, Annabel Whitcombe, can guide you through the assessment process, help identify your child’s goals and recommend the right level of support for them.

Masking can be exhausting, especially for children who are constantly trying to fit in, meet expectations or hide how they are really feeling.

It can look like copying peers, holding everything together at school, worrying about getting things “right”, or having big meltdowns once they are finally somewhere they feel safe.

Importantly, masking does not always mean a child is struggling in an obvious way. A child can appear happy, compliant and “fine” while using huge amounts of energy to navigate their environment.

If you are noticing these patterns in your child, you do not have to work it out alone. Understanding what is underneath the behaviour can be the first step towards getting the right support.

💬 Have you noticed any of these signs in your child?

Tell us in the comments or DM Insights Psychology to find out how we can help.
