At NWRH, the safety, wellbeing and rights of children and young people remain a core priority across all of our services and communities.

We are proud to launch our revised Child and Youth Risk Management Strategy, aligned with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, Queensland Child Safe Standards, and the Commonwealth Child Safe Framework.

This updated Strategy strengthens our commitment to:
🎒creating safe and inclusive environments for children and young people
🪁embedding child safety into leadership, governance and everyday practice
⚽️ensuring strong reporting, training and risk management processes
🧩supporting culturally safe and responsive care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities
🧸listening to and empowering the voices of children and young people.

Child safety is everyone’s responsibility, and we remain committed to continuous improvement to ensure children and young people feel safe, respected and supported when engaging with NWRH services.

MEET MONDAY - THE PASSWORD AUTHORITARIAN 👋

Here is our newest management team member, Brad. If your password is 'Password123', he already knows, and is silently judging you!

Welcoming Brad on Board as our Manager of Data and Technology based in our Townsville office we took a little time to ask Brad some questions to help you all get to know him.

💻Professional background?
I have a diverse background working with medium to large enterprises in IT roles. I am a certified ACS Professional, Data Master Engineer, and Cyber Security Architect, and I hold certificates in Business Risk and Project Management.

❓Why this role?
My passion is operational IT service delivery, and I am now able to focus this in a single organisation by being part of an internal IT team. I chose NWRH because I value supporting the community, and although my experience may not directly impact the community, I am committed to supporting those who do, as that impact is very meaningful to me.

💡What you do in your role?
My focus will be to align the ICT for NWRH with the highest operational standards. This will influence how the ICT team functions on a daily basis, as well as our interactions with vendors and service providers, and the compliance and reporting requirements we must adhere to.

📋How your role supports the organisation?
I will work to empower the ICT Team to support the organisation as effectively as possible, providing a support standard that is dependable, clearly communicated, and efficient for all business units within NWRH.

⛺Interests outside of work?
I believe in not taking life too seriously and enjoy spending my time outdoors, whether camping or relaxing in the garden with my family. I’m always open to sharing a laugh, socialising with friends, or even the occasional prank.

☕Something interesting that happened to you in the last 12-months:
I grew my own coffee trees, fermented the beans and brewed coffee, suffice it to say the “Brad’s Beans Brewing Co” will not be a viable retirement plan for me.

Support to navigate mental health and wellbeing services 🌐🧭

At NWRH, our Front Door and Journey Coordination services are part of the MyndKind program, designed to help people access the right mental health and wellbeing support, at the right time.

We understand that navigating services can feel overwhelming. These services provide a welcoming, compassionate starting point, helping individuals and families connect with supports that meet their needs whether through MyndKind or other local services.

MyndKind is a stepped care model, meaning support is matched to what a person needs right now, and can change over time

If you would like to know more about accessing these services we invite you to head to our website 👉🔗 www.nwrh.com.au/navigation-services/ or contact he Medicare Mental Health Phone Service ☎️1800595212

🧘‍♂️ Connecting & Creating in Longreach 🎨

The NWRH Carer Gateway team in Longreach recently gathered with local carers and peers for a wonderful morning of connection, relaxation, and celebration.

The day kicked off with a gentle chair yoga session, followed by a delicious barbecue lunch. It was a fantastic opportunity to discuss the power of connectedness and share information about the vital services NWRH provides to support carers across the region.

We also shared a bittersweet moment as we came together to farewell our wonderful host, Peta-Ann, as she prepares for her move down south. Thank you, Peta-Ann, for everything! 💙

To top off a beautiful morning, attendees met up with the local Indigenous Art Group to view their incredible artwork. It was an absolute privilege to catch up with long-standing former NWRH employee and deeply respected community Elder, Aunty Joyce, and see her amazing painting skills in action! 🖌️✨

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day so special.

🎨 Creative Break for Our Local Carers! 🏺

Our NWRH Central West Carer Support Officer, Liam, recently coordinated a fantastic Handmade Pottery class for local Carers under the Carer Gateway IPPS program.

Hosted by Heather Hale (Coordinator at Longreach Arts and Crafts), our Carers created some incredible clay pieces and enjoyed a guided tour of the beautiful Gallery.

Taking time out for yourself is so important. These social activities are a wonderful way for Carers to enjoy a well-deserved break, connect with others, and learn new skills.
