The thing is, kids generally don't set out to be "not-careful".
Chances are, when they're climbing a tree, or setting off on their bike, kids will be aiming for 'careful' in preference to pain, plaster or worse.
When we repeatedly say to our little ones, "Be careful", we think we're saying, "Stay safe, I love you".
But to our kids, (who we're likely distracting from their attempts at carefulness with our repeated "Be carefuls"), they may just hear, "There's a good chance you'll fail. You haven't got this."
And messages like these carry their own risk.
Be careful with your "Be carefuls" ❤
