“Your way” is something we talk about a lot at APM. It’s also the heart of StepUP! .

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and Down Syndrome Australia invites everyone to pick a challenge that reflects who they are and what they stand for, then do it 21 times in October.

Maybe that’s 21 kind messages. Or 21 dance moves. Or 21 photos of things you’re grateful for. There’s no wrong way to do it. Just yours.

Who would you take on a challenge with? Tag them below.

Here’s a reform update every plan-managed participant should know about. 👇

The NDIS plans to set up a panel of approved plan managers from 1 October 2027. That’s followed by a 6-month transition period. From April 2028, plan-managed participants will need to use a plan manager on the panel.

The NDIS says the aim is to make paying providers easier, strengthen fraud detection and participant safety, and make sure providers are only paid for services delivered.

What hasn’t been announced yet: plan management pricing, how many plan managers will be on the panel, and the full details of transition support.

What it means today: nothing changes. Your plan manager, your supports and 2026-27 plan management fees all stay the same.

It’s National Safe Work Month, and this year’s theme is Safe work is for life.

Work health and safety (WHS) advocates preventing harm at the moment, and also protecting your physical and psychological health, your life and your future.

For support workers, providers and allied health professionals, that might look like:
• Safe manual handling and equipment
• Clear processes for reporting hazards
• Manageable workloads and regular breaks
• Someone to talk to when work feels heavy

Pick one task and ask: how could we make this safer?

Heard about Thriving Kids and wondering what it means for your family? Here's the short version.

Thriving Kids is a new program for young children and their families. It's for children aged 8 and under with developmental delay and/or autism who have low to moderate support needs.

The Australian Government is working with state and territory governments to deliver it. It started in October 2026 and will grow over time.

It builds on supports that already exist, like child and maternal health services, playgroups and parenting groups, and aims to help identify extra developmental needs earlier and connect children and families with the right support.

There's nothing you need to do now. NDIS access does not change when Thriving Kids starts, and changes to NDIS access don't begin until 2028. Until then, children who need support can keep applying to the NDIS in the same way.

"His care, professionalism and willingness to go the extra mile are a real asset to his clients."

Thank you. Hearing that our people make a difference to the people they work with means a lot to all of us at APM.

Lovely to meet you, Abbey! 💙

Our APM's Partnerships & Business Development Manager, Hayley, had a great catch-up with Abbey from Kind & Collaborative Empowerment last week, chatting about the NDIS community and how we can support participants and families together.

We love connecting with people across the sector, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.

Thanks for your time, Abbey. Let’s keep the conversation going!

Some NDIS support budgets have started to change.

Starting from 1 October, under the new NDIS laws, budgets will be reduced for Social Economic and Community Participation and Improved Daily Living Skills. Not all supports in these categories are affected. You can check which are on the NDIS website.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰:
Your budget will only be reduced when your plan is reassessed from 1 October 2026 or renewed from 1 February 2027. If your plan isn't due for reassessment until 1 October 2027 or later, your reassessment date will be brought forward, with 60 days' notice. Keep using your plan funding as normal.

From February 2027, unused funds will no longer roll over automatically into your next plan.

That's because a new plan renewal process will replace plan continuation when your plan reaches its reassessment date. Your current plan doesn't change today.

So before renewal, it's worth knowing how much you've spent in each category and how much is left. Ask your plan manager, support coordinator or planner for a budget update, and talk through whether your funding is being used the way you planned.

Want a clearer picture of your funding? Talk to our team about plan management. Full guide in the comments.

The NDIS reforms are officially underway. 📅

The new NDIS laws passed in August 2026, and the changes are being rolled out gradually between now and 2030. Your current plan and supports haven't changed. Some practical changes are coming up soon, though.

One of the first is the claiming time limit. From December 2026, NDIS claims need to be made within 90 days of a support being delivered. Right now, the limit is 2 years.

What this means for you:
🔹 Plan-managed participants: Your provider sends us the invoice, and we pay it and claim the funds for you. Prompt invoices mean smooth payments.
🔹 Providers: Send your invoices in soon after you deliver a support, so there's time to process them within the new window.
🔹 Self-managed participants: Keep on top of your own claims so nothing slips past the 90 days.

We'll keep sharing the reform changes as they roll out, one step at a time, in simple terms. Want the full picture? Read our NDIS Reforms 2026 guide here ⬇️
