The 2026-2027 price guide is out and Allied Health face yet again another year of price freezes. It has now been more than 8 years since the NDIS has increased prices for essential allied health services such as Occupational Therapy & Speech Pathology. We have seen decreases in professions such as Dietetics, Counselling, Art and Music Therapy (and many more). Fair Work minimum wages have been increased close to 40% over 8 years. This is unsustainable when we have no capacity to make independent decisions to increase our fees. This stranglehold occurs in no other industry.

The health professionals who provide these services are highly qualified and deserve better. The Australian Government Mark Butler MP needs to stop undervaluing health professionals and provide real, viable pricing figures for a sustainable health workforce. Our work is preventative, restorative, progressive and works to prevent hospital admissions and carer burden, and increase independence, skill and participation for our clients. Enough is enough - protect participant access, pay us what we are worth, build stronger healthcare and disability support for Australia.

Without allied health, there is no NDIS.

Sensory differences can be a core part of the autistic experience, shaping how people perceive, interpret and respond to the world around them. Everyday environments can either support participation and wellbeing or contribute to stress, overwhelm and exclusion.

When we create sensory-friendly spaces and adapt environments to meet individual needs, we can reduce distress, enhance engagement and support positive mental health outcomes. True inclusion is not about changing the person, but about building environments where they can feel safe, understood and able to thrive.

If you would like to better understand your child's unique sensory profile and how it may be impacting their participation, learning and wellbeing, our occupational therapists can help. Contact our clinic to learn more about sensory assessments and individualised support.

Understanding Autism Through Monotropism

Many autistic people naturally focus their attention deeply on one interest, activity or idea at a time. This focused attention can create opportunities for creativity, learning, enjoyment and a strong sense of engagement.

When we understand monotropism, behaviours that may appear as difficulty with change, shifting attention or responding to interruptions can make more sense. Moving away from a highly engaging activity often requires significant mental effort.

By recognising and respecting this way of processing the world, we can create environments that reduce unnecessary stress, support smoother transitions and build on autistic strengths.

Our Allied Health team are here to help best support your child, give us a call to on (03) 8560 4060 (Kensington clinic) or (03) 9578 7560 (Cheltenham clinic).
