In attachment-focused play therapy, caregivers are active participants in the therapeutic process.

Research consistently shows that children regulate and develop through safe, responsive relationships. Including caregivers allows therapeutic experiences to continue beyond the therapy room and strengthens the child’s sense of connection and trust.

This can be especially meaningful for families navigating trauma, attachment disruptions, or relational stress.

Children build connection through shared experiences of safety, joy, and responsiveness.

Engagement isn’t about “getting compliance” — it’s about being emotionally present, attuned, and connected in ways that help children feel secure.

Attachment-focused play therapy uses playful, relational experiences to strengthen trust, co-regulation, and connection between children and caregivers.

Trauma-informed therapeutic approaches increasingly recognise co-regulation and relational safety as foundational to emotional development.
