Huon Valley Health Consumer Advisory Group

I'm seeking to set up a Huon Valley Consumer Advisory Group to advise
me in securing funding to ensure our Urgent and After Hours Service continues and expands.

The main responsibilities include bringing the patient perspective to management, reviewing health document, and advising on service planning and policy design.
If you would like to provide community feedback for the Cygnet Family Practice Urgent and After Hours Service.
Your commitment would be attending monthly meetings for 2 hours for 10 months starting July on a Thursday in Huonville as a central location.

Cygnet Family Practice Urgent and After-Hours Service has been funded by the state government for another
12 months. In the meantime, we will work with the government to secure ongoing funding to ensure the people of the Huon Valley
continue to access to health care on the day they need it.

Unfortunately our books are closed until we recruit another General Practitioner.
Our Urgent and After Hours service will be open every Thursday and Friday 10am-8.30pm
Saturday 9am-8.30pm.

You do not need to be a patient of Cygnet Family Practice to use this service.

The position will be from the 6th July till 1st August.
Your hours will be 30hours per fortnight.
Working hours would be Monday-Thursday 5pm-8pm
Sunday’s 10am-1pm.

RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus is a very contagious respiratory virus that can cause severe infection and complications in older adults and may lead to hospitalisation.

Arexvy (the RSV vaccine) is available for free for people aged over 75yrs.

For more information please speak to one of our nurses or book in with your GP.

Cygnet Family Practice Urgent and After-Hours Service

Unfortunately, due to a lack of ongoing funding from the state government budget, this service will cease from 30th June 2026.
This nationally Medicare awarded, innovative service, led by nurse practitioners and community paramedics, has been available to the people of the Huon Valley for the past 4 years. It has provided access to an additional 100 'on the day' appointments for health care needs when waiting times to see GPs was 4 weeks.

99% of people seen at our service have had their health care needs met by the knowledge, skill and expertise of the nurse practitioners and community paramedics. Potential savings to the state budget is conservatively over $1,000,000 per year, by decreasing call-outs to ambulances and people going to the Royal Hobart Hospital emergency department for urgent needs.

This Urgent and After-Hours model of care is safe, cost effective and sustainable. It meets the government health policies for providing the right person to provide the right care in the person's own community.

Needle-Free Flu Vaccine for Children

FluMist® is a needle-free, Painless, TGA-approved flu vaccine given as a quick nasal spray. At this time it is only available for people aged between 2 and 17yrs.

It has comparable effectiveness to the traditional injectable flu vaccine.

FluMist® is not currently funded under the National Immunisation Program (NIP), it is available for only $60.
