Fertility treatment can bring up grief, anxiety, hope, frustration and exhaustion, sometimes all in the same day.
In TCM, emotions and physical health are never separate, and your emotional wellbeing matters just as much as anything else in this process.
Alongside acupuncture, I always encourage patients to use their clinic's fertility counselling services.
You don't need to be falling apart to benefit from talking to someone.

Every fertility journey is different, and my approach is always individualised to you, your TCM pattern, your history and your treatment plan. I work collaboratively with your fertility specialist and team, and I'm always happy to share treatment notes with them.
If you'd like support preparing for IVF, IUI or a transfer, or you're already mid cycle and want some extra care, I'd love to help. Book in for an initial consultation and we can map out a plan together.

If you're starting IVF, preparing for an IUI, or somewhere in the middle of it all, you already know it can feel like a full time job. Appointments, injections, blood tests, scans, waiting, hoping. It's a lot, physically and emotionally.
As acupuncturists and naturopaths working in fertility, our role is to support you and your body alongside your fertility specialist, not instead of them.
If you are looking for individualised support, we've got you.

Many people don't realise that the egg 🥚you ovulate or collect this month, began its final stage of development around three months ago.
🚹Sperm take a similar amount of time to mature, roughly 70 to 90 days from start to finish.

That means the choices you make today are shaping the eggs and s***m of your future cycle.
This is why we love working with people ideally three to four months before an IVF cycle 🧪or IUI. It gives us a proper window to build strong foundations.

That said, if your cycle 🩸starts next week, please don't panic. There is still plenty we can do to support you, and it's never too late to start.

You’ve had your embryo transfer. Now what?
1. 🔥Prioritize warmth: TCM principles stress keeping the lower abdomen and feet warm to support the "womb" and encourage healthy circulation. Wear socks or slippers and avoid walking barefoot on cold floors.
2. 😴Gentle rest over strict bed rest: Light normal activities are encouraged to promote blood flow but high impact exercise, heavy lifting and activities that spike your heart rate over 140 bpm should be avoided.
3. 🧎‍♀️‍➡️Stress management: Relaxing the mind and lowering cortisol is important post embryo transfer. Activities like gentle breathwork are recommended to keep stress levels low.
4. 🍲Choose warm and cooked foods to nourish the body. Eat warm, easily digestible foods like soups, congee, cooked greens and stews rather than cold raw foods like salad, smoothies or iced drinks.
5. 🫐Minimizing or eliminating caffeine, alcohol, processed sugars and fried foods helps reduce the overall bodily inflammation during the delicate implantation phase.
6. 🪡Continue your acupuncture schedule. Our approach at this point is very gentle; using a small number of carefully chosen points to calm the Shen, support the Kidneys and Spleen, and keep circulation to the uterus warm and nourished. There are also points we deliberately avoid after transfer, which is why it's important to see a practitioner experienced in fertility care.
