BROOKS GHOST MAX 4 — TECHNICAL SHOE REVIEW 👟

The Ghost Max 4 continues Brooks’ maximum-cushion neutral platform, designed around protection, stability and smooth forward transition. A good option for both running and walking.

⚖️ WEIGHT
Men: 292 g / 10.3 oz
Women: 260.8 g / 9.2 oz

📐 DROP — 6 mm

🏃 MIDSOLE

The Ghost Max 4 uses a high stack of DNA LOFT v3, Brooks’ nitrogen-infused cushioning, delivering a softer and more protective feel underfoot yet with durability.

Despite the high stack, the shoe feels relatively stable thanks to its broad base and midsole geometry.

The GlideRoll™ Rocker is a standout feature. Combined with the 6 mm drop, it assists progression from heel contact through to toe-off, reducing the amount of work required through the ankle and forefoot.

🦶 STABILITY

This is a great shoe for runners with a neutral foot that require broad stance stability. The upgraded midsole foam feels more stable than its predecessor and more responsive too.
This shoe is also perfect for those with limited range at their 1st MTPJ and or forefoot due to its rocker design .

🧵 FIT & UPPER

The upper provides a roomy, accommodating fit, particularly through the forefoot. Importantly, the internal volume also makes the Ghost Max 4 **very orthotic friendly and comes in a variety of widths. **

🔬 TECHNICAL VERDICT

A very well-balanced maximum-cushion shoe. The combination of DNA LOFT v3, broad platform and GlideRoll rocker provides cushioning without making the shoe feel excessively unstable.

Particularly well suited to** daily running, longer runs, walking and orthotic users or with a neutral foot type **

ASICS GEL-KAYANO™ 33 — TECHNICAL SHOE REVIEW 👟

The Kayano gets a significant update for version 33, with ASICS moving away from the 4D Guidance System and introducing a new approach to adaptive stability. It remains a maximum-cushioned stability daily trainer, but with a softer, smoother and less intrusive ride.

Women: 259 g / 9.1 oz

🏃 MIDSOLE

The Kayano 33 introduces a dual-layer midsole:

• FF BLAST™ MAX forms the softer upper layer, providing increased cushioning and energy return.
• FF BLAST™ PLUS sits underneath, creating a firmer and more stable base.

The result is a highly cushioned platform without making the shoe feel excessively soft or unstable.

The previous 4D GUIDANCE SYSTEM™ has been replaced by the FLUIDSUPPORT™ stability system

Rather than relying on a traditional firm medial post, FLUIDSUPPORT combines the different foam densities, midsole geometry and broad platform to provide adaptive guidance through the gait cycle.

The idea is to provide more support when the runner loads medially while still allowing relatively natural movement when that additional stability isn’t required.

This makes the Kayano 33 particularly interesting for runners who want stability without the aggressive correction traditionally associated with motion-control shoes. Assessed only in short it appears to perform this very well compared to its predecessor. Time will tell over repeated use as to its durability.

PureGEL™ remains strategically positioned under the heel to improve shock absorption and create a softer initial contact. This can certainly be felt.
Suited to runners requiring stability especially heel strikers, higher-load runners and even for longer easy runs. A well optioned shoe for a broad range consumer.

Running NOT Walking:
This Shoe is not suited for Walking as a strong lateral heel strike at contact, will cause long term midsole compression that in turn can throw off foot and lower limb biomechanics.

The Adrenaline GTS 25 continues as one of Brooks’ most trusted shoe lines, and it’s easy to see why. This shoe is built for runners who want extra support without feeling bulky.

Pros:
The standout feature is Brooks’ GuideRails® support system, which helps control excess movement and keeps your feet, knees and hips aligned. Combined with the updated DNA LOFT v3 nitrogen-infused cushioning, the ride feels noticeably softer and smoother than previous versions while still remaining stable and responsive. Very lightweight and comfortable. Excellent outer tread too for durability.
An Orthotic insole fits well to this shoe and complements the stability.

Cons:
Unfortunately, care must be taken in selecting this shoe. If you are a rear/ heel striker during gait the midsole will unfortunately collapse laterally very quickly, forcing you to change the shoe only after a few hundred kms.
Stability is not as substantial as shoes such as the asics Kayano and GT 2000.

Men’s Weight: 301 g (US 9)
Women’s Weight: 269 g (US 8)
Heel-to-Toe Drop: 10 mm
Upper: Breathable engineered mesh
Price: RRP $269.95
Men: US 7–15 (selected colours available in 2E Wide and some Narrow options)
Women: US 5–12 (available in Narrow, Standard and Wide depending on colour)

Rating 8.0/10 as a well all round stability shoe. Loses points on midsole structure / design

SHOE REVIEW:
RRP $280
SIZE 6-13 and 7-16

The Asics Nimbus Maximizes comfort with PureGEL inserts and FF Blast+ Eco foam, giving a soft, bouncy ride ideal for recovery days and high-mileage runners. The thick stack provides excellent shock absorption but sacrifices some ground feel and stability. A mild rocker mid door also allows for smooth transition from contact to propulsion.

It’s soft engineered knit upper molds around the foot for an adaptive fit; some runners note a tight midfoot initially that breaks in over time. But overall wider at the forefoot than others in the range. Available in multiple widths.

The Nimbus can house an orthotic footbed easily however be mindful that this is not a shoe for a heavy individual or heavy foot striker as the midsole will compress rapidly. An excellent shoe in the neutral category for the right athlete.
If you’re unsure , book an appointment for a footwear assessment at Core Podiatry Group.
Rating 7.5 /10 overall neutral shoe but for the correct athlete 9/10.

The shoe feels great and you can definitely notice the change in midsole foam when running and its anatomical fit hugs the foot exceptionally well providing a nice guided stance phase. As it is soft further miles are required to see its true durable as I predict that it will last less kms than its predecessor , however I feel it makes up for that in cushioning and performance .
Fits an Orthotic well, tractions well and breathes well.
Overall rating 9/10
