Child Sense offers therapy services in the Inner West of Sydney for children and teens aged 0-18

Child Sense provides services for children and teens with a range of challenges including sensory processing differences, coordination challenges, emotional dysregulation, behavioural difficulties, developmental delay, specific learning difficulties, difficulties with play, complex needs, social difficulties, handwriting and fine motor concerns. Child Sense aims to create an enjoyable and safe environment for children and their families. Therapy is individualised and programmes maintain a high standard in order to facilitate improved function and maximise the potential for every child we work with. A range of services are offered by our team of therapists and include:

* Intervention in the school, home or clinic environments
* Individual or group sessions
* Preschool or school screenings
* Setting up and directing services in schools
* Workshops and training for parents and professionals

🎨🟩 Skill Building in Disguise!🟩 🎨
In the school holidays, our block buddies explored straw painting as part of our Minecraft-themed adventures! 🌬️🎮

Through creative, hands-on play, children had opportunities to practise breath control, regulation, problem-solving and flexible thinking as they experimented with moving paint across the page. They also explored creativity, focus and sharing ideas with others along the way. 🧱✨

🏗️ Building towers & building skills! 🧪
This week during our school holiday Science Group, children worked together to create a spaghetti and marshmallow tower, using planning, organisation, monitoring and flexible problem-solving to work towards their goal. 🧠🤝

When the tower didn’t turn out as expected, they had opportunities to pause, check, adjust and try a new approach — all while collaborating with their team! ✨

🧠✨ Executive Functioning: Part 2! ✨🧠
Following on from our recent executive functioning workshop, today our team continued our learning with Executive Functioning Training: Theory, Assessment & Intervention 📚🔍

This time, we took a deeper dive into the different executive functioning domains and explored the importance of clearly defining these skills and using consistent language to help us understand what we are targeting in practice — and why. 💭🧩

We also reflected on our experience using the BRIEF-2 combined with our newly developed assessment tools across the term. It was fun to consider how assessment information can translate into practical, meaningful OT intervention. 💙💛

Our High School Readiness Group is back! 🎉 Following on from our Term 3 programme, we’re continuing to support adolescents as they prepare for the transition to high school.

Using the Unstuck and On Target curriculum, sessions focus on practical executive functioning skills including flexible thinking, planning, organisation, problem-solving and managing everyday challenges. 🎒🧩💭

🎯 Movement + visual supports = smoother transitions!
Have you ever started a sensory or movement-based game and found yourself getting stuck and unable to move on? 🧱 We can use environmental set-up to help communicate “when we start” and “when we finish”! 🤸

Neurodivergent children, in particular, may have strong visual processing skills, so we can use a strengths-based approach by building on these skills to help children understand what to expect and transition between tasks with greater predictability. 💙✨

🧠✨ Learning more about Executive Functioning! ✨🧠
Recently at Child Sense, our team came together for an executive functioning workshop, exploring how we can assess these skills using the BRIEF-2 📚🔍

We looked at key areas including inhibition, emotional control, shifting, working memory, planning and organisation, task monitoring and organisation of materials — and how these skills can impact children’s everyday participation. 💭🧩

Understanding a child’s individual executive functioning profile helps us better identify their strengths, understand areas of difficulty, and guide meaningful, targeted OT intervention 💙💛

This school holidays, our Science Group will explore exciting hands-on experiments while building important executive functioning and social skills through play and investigation! 🧠💡

Children will practise planning, problem-solving, sensory exploration and collaboration as they experiment, make predictions, and discover what happens next. Activities may include slime, lava lamps, floating eggs, soda explosions and DIY toy cars! 🥚🌋🚗
