We have a new triathlon event in Mackay!

Sunday 27th September 2026 will see the first ever SHE TRIs Triathlon event held at the Mackay Aquatic Recreation Complex.

Ladies, if you've been wanting to dip your toe into triathlon and multisport or make a return to the sport after a break, this is an event not to be missed.

Introducing SHE TRIs – for our PAST - PRESENT and FUTURE triathlon stars - where we swim, bike, and RUN IT LIKE WE OWN IT (because we do).

Choose your adventure:
✨ Kids TRI (7-12): 100m swim | 2.5km bike | 800m run
✨ The Dash: 200m swim | 5km bike | 1.6km run
✨ The Enduro: 400m swim | 10km bike | 3.2km run

Go solo or team up – either way, you'll be supported in the safest, off road environment - the MARC. 50m pool. 2.5km bike laps. 400m tartan track. Zero judgment. Pure sisterhood.

Congratulations to podiatrist Bec, receptionist Jacqui and their teammate Nikki on taking out fastest team at the Airlie Beach Triathlon on Sunday.

The ladies swim, biked and rode their way to a win with a time of 2:43:22!

The Airlie Beach Triathlon is a fantastic local event, well worth including on your event calendar for 2027!

Before buying school shoes, answer the following:

1. Did you bring your child's uniform-issued socks to ensure the shoes fit well in these conditions?
2. Did you have your child's feet measured correctly for length and width at a store that offers trained assistants?
3. Did you make sure that your child could wriggle their toes freely in their shoes, both up and down and side to side?
4. Did you check that there is about 1cm of growing room (no more!) between the end of their longest toe and the end of their shoe?
5. Do the shoes match their activities and the season? Such as podiatry-approved sandals for summer, or breathable upper material for their sports shoe?
6. Do the shoes have a method of attachment (like laces, buckle or Velcro)? This allows the shoe to be adjusted to meet the growing needs of your child. Avoid elastic shoes and slip-ons as these don't support developing young feet.

If you answered 'yes' to all of the above questions go ahead and make your purchase, knowing that you are helping to support your child's foot health.

Are you about to buy school shoes for your child? Take this quiz:

1. Do your child's shoes show uneven wear and tear, or scuff marks?
2. Do you feel that your child has a 'hart to fit' foot?
3. Is it hard to understand which shoe types are most suited to your child's different activities?
4. Does your child experience skin rashes, hard skin on their feet, lumps, bumps, excessive sweating, itching or ingrowing toenails?
5. Does your child complain of foot or leg pain?
6. Does your child often trip or fall?

If you answered 'yes' to one or more of the above questions, consider taking your child to see a podiatrist before purchasing new school shoes!
