Injury update: Hamstring injuries. It seems to be the season.

Hamstrings 🤝 AFL

From sprinting and kicking to sudden direction changes, your hamstrings do it all. It’s no surprise they’re one of the most common injuries in AFL.

Why do they get injured?
• High-speed running loads.
• Fatigue late in games.
• Previous injury history.
• Strength imbalances.

Rehab isn’t just about getting pain-free. It’s about getting game-ready. Right now, our players are working through a structured program targeting:
- Strength and power.
- Progressive running loads.
- Speed development.
- Directional change.

Because in the Australian Football League, true game fitness comes from well-guided rehab, not shortcuts.

Strong hamstrings = faster, more resilient athletes! 💪

Mastitis support during breastfeeding

Mastitis can make breastfeeding feel overwhelming, especially when discomfort, inflammation or blocked ducts are involved.
Early support can make a real difference in helping women feel more comfortable, reassured and guided through the next steps.

Physiotherapy may support mastitis management through education, therapeutic ultrasound and gentle hands-on techniques.

No one should feel like they have to manage it alone.

Heel pain in active kids and teens

Growth spurts, sport and busy training weeks can sometimes contribute to heel pain in young athletes.

One possible cause is Sever’s disease, a common growth-related heel condition that can happen when the Achilles tendon places extra pull on the growth plate at the back of the heel.

You may notice things like discomfort during or after sport, limping, toe-walking, tenderness around the heel, tight calves or reduced ankle movement.

The good news is that growth-related heel pain can often be managed well with the right support.

Physio can help with activity changes, calf mobility, leg and foot strengthening, footwear advice and a gradual return-to-sport plan.

If heel pain is starting to affect sport, school or everyday movement, a physio assessment can help guide the next steps. Get in touch with us to book an appointment. https://bit.ly/49o4iux

If you are getting pain around the thumb side of your wrist, it could be more than just general strain. De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis, or “mum thumb”, is a common condition we see in new mums 👶

What is it?
It is an irritation of two tendons that move your thumb, causing pain along the thumb side of the wrist.
Signs to look for:
• Pain when lifting your baby.
• Pain with gripping, twisting, or opening jars and doors.
• Tenderness at the base of the thumb.
• Swelling near the wrist.
• Sharp pain with thumb movement.
Why new mums?
Repetitive lifting and awkward wrist positions can easily overload the area.

Think:
• Feeding positions.
• Picking up your baby with your thumbs under their arms.
• One-handed tasks throughout the day.

How physio can help:
✔️ Advice on lifting technique and wrist position.
✔️ Taping or thumb splints for support.
✔️ Tendon gliding and strengthening exercises.
✔️ Load management that works around daily life.
✔️ Hands-on treatment to help settle pain.

Quick Tip:
Try lifting your baby with your palms under their body instead of hooking under their arms. The longer it lingers, the more stubborn it can become.

If this sounds familiar, getting some support early can make things feel much more manageable. https://bit.ly/4tjAHcS

Osgood-Schlatter Disease (knee pain in growing bodies)

A common growth-related condition in which the patellar tendon pulls on the growth plate at the top of the shin, often seen during periods of growth and in sports involving running, jumping, or kicking.

Common Signs 🦵🏼
- Pain or tenderness just below the kneecap.
- Swelling or a noticeable bump at the top of the shin.
- Pain with sport, squats, stairs, or kneeling.
- Tight quads or hamstrings.

Physiotherapy can help with:
- Activity modification (not always complete rest).
- Strengthening hips, glutes, and legs.
- Improving flexibility.
- Managing training loads.
- Safe return-to-sport guidance.

Pushing through pain can keep it irritated and delay recovery. If knee pain is ongoing, it’s worth getting it assessed early to support safe, confident movement. 💛 https://bit.ly/3P9vwOF.
