What makes Tooronga cat care different? 😻🏥

✅ Cat only consulting rooms on their own floor (Level 1 of our hospital)
✅ Feliway diffusers and spray to help settle feline friends in clinic
✅ Minimally invasive handling techniques, working with your cat at their pace
✅ Behaviour aids or medications like gabapentin can be recommended and used to help cats feel better in the clinic environment
✅ Lots of squeeze treats because we want them to feel as good as possible about coming back!

Bringing your feline friend to their consult in a top opening carrier, or pull apart carrier can also provide your clinical team with more handling and management options. Attending with a familiar towel or blanket over the top of their carrier can help reduce reduce stress by making them feel safe and sound, and limiting any visuals that might feel scary. 🐱

Let’s work together to be your kitty’s best ever wellbeing team! Call (03) 9000 9828 to schedule an appointment or book online using the link in our bio. 🔗

Alfie & Teddy were quick to jump in front of the camera this morning! How photogenic is this handsome pair?! 😍🥰

Teddy and Alfie are part of the 395 family having recently visited recently who we are co-located with in a time of need, and consulting regularly with for all things general practice and wellbeing.

Teddy (pictured right) was our patient today, but brother Alfie (pictured left) was right by his paw for morale support! They were very well behaved, and such a pleasure to have visit the clinic with Dr Jemima. 🐶🐶

A big warm welcome to Dr Jemima Jansen who has landed softly, sweetly and kindly at Tooronga Veterinary Hospital! 💙

Dr Jemima has joined our team both in a surgical and consulting capacity, with a keen interest in pet behaviour support. She has settled into our clinic quickly and it has been wonderful to already see some beautiful relationships develop between her and our clients. Not to gush but we think she’d make a perfect family GP vet! 👩🏽‍⚕️

Is your pet rubbing their eyes? It might not be an infection! 👀

Sweet Pickles visited us with red, irritated eyes, and his owner had a great instinct - suspecting allergies rather than an infection. 🙌🏽 This is actually something we see quite often. Allergies and eye infections can look very similar, and it’s easy to assume antibiotics are needed, but that’s not always the case.

So how do we tell the difference? 💡
At Tooronga Veterinary Hospital, we use simple diagnostics like cytology (looking at cells under the microscope). In Pickles’ case, this showed inflammation without significant bacteria, confirming allergic conjunctivitis rather than an infection.

Why this matters: ✨
Treating the right cause means:
✅ More effective relief for your pet
✅ Avoiding unnecessary medications
✅ Better long-term management of recurring flare-ups

Pickles’ plan: 🐶
👁️ Anti-inflammatory eye drops to settle flare-ups
🌻 Gentle cleaning at home (cooled calendula tea can help early signs!)
🫶🏽 Ongoing care if allergies flare again

Our goal is always to get to the root cause, not just treat the symptoms. 🩵

We hope Pickles comes to feel more comfortable very soon! 🐾

Happy Mother's Day to all the fur mums!

To the ones who never miss a walk, always share the couch, and somehow know exactly what their pets' needs with just one look.

Thank you for the comfort, care, patience and love you give every single day, the kind that comes with muddy paws, wet noses, early morning and very full hearts.

Today, we're celebrating the special bond between pets and the people who love them like family.

From all of us at TVH, Happy Mother's Day! 💙

If your dog broke a bone, you would seek a treatment plan and recovery. Anxiety feels just as real for pets, and can be treated just as well as a broken bone!

Behaviour medication isn’t about sedating your pet or changing who they are. It’s about helping quiet the fear and overwhelm in their mind so they can better respond to training, learning, and everyday life 💙

For some dogs, medication can be a valuable tool in helping them feel safer, calmer, and more able to cope.

If this resonates with you, our team is here to help.

Some faces just make the whole clinic smile 🤎
Fletcher came in for a General Health Check with his tail wagging, happy grins and Labrador-level enthusiasm… and honestly, we’re still obsessed. 🐾

Safe to say he collected a few extra pats (and treats 😜) from the team before heading home.

Our team is growing again! Welcome Dr Anne-Katrin Oatley! 🩺

Dr Anne-Katrin (pronounced ‘Ana’) hails from Germany originally but moved to Australia for love! Anne went to the University of Melbourne for her veterinary degree, graduating in 1998, and then started working in small animal clinics around Melbourne. She spent a year working in the UK and travelling in Europe with her family which was a real highlight. In 2017, Dr Anne completed her Master of Veterinary Studies in Small Animal Practice.

Anne really enjoys soft tissue surgery and dentistry, and loves the experience of getting to know clients and their pets in the consult room. Dr Anne shares that after having worked as a vet for 27 years, she still loves it and couldn’t imagine doing anything else!

In her spare time, Anne likes staying active and spending time at the beach. She also plays tennis and enjoy walking her two Brittany Spaniels. Dr Anne and her husband love bike touring during their holidays.

Introduce yourself and your pet to Dr Anne in the comments! 👇🏽🐾
