It's World Arthritis Day, and the start of Bone and Joint Action Week.

Around 2.1 million Australians live with osteoarthritis. It mostly affects knees, hands and hips, and it creeps up: pain during and after activity at first, then stairs and low chairs take more planning.

A lot can be done without surgery. Australia's national care standard for knee osteoarthritis puts exercise at the centre of care, and says it's safe even when osteoarthritis is severe.

If your joints are changing your day, start with your GP.

Where does joint replacement fit in? Our article explains: https://adeneyprivate.com.au/adeney-insights-hub/when-is-it-time-for-a-joint-replacement/

“I jump out of bed every morning to come to work.”

Meet Katrina Garvey, our Director of Clinical Operations. She’s an indispensable part of our leadership team.

For Katrina, working in healthcare means you’re surrounded by brilliant people who've dedicated their lives to helping others, and as she puts it, “they're my people.”

At Adeney, nobody wears just one hat. The standards are high, the learning never stops, and the knowledge gets shared freely.

And when you walk through our doors, Katrina has one goal: that you feel welcomed and at ease.

Private cover, and still a bill? It happens more often than people expect.

A private hospital stay can bring separate bills from the hospital, your surgeon and your anaesthetist. At Adeney in Kew, Medibank and Bupa members with eligible hospital cover pay no additional charge at the point of care for their surgeon, anaesthetist and related in-hospital fees.

Don’t forget, clocks go forward this Sunday, 4 October!

That extra daylight is a good excuse to get moving. A walk doesn't need to be long or fast to count. Regular movement is good for your joints, your heart and your circulation, and it's easier to keep up with company.

So turn your next catch-up into a walk-and-talk. Call a friend, take the long way round the block, talk the whole way.

If you live with joint pain or haven't been active for a while, your GP or physio can help you find your pace.

We hear this more than you'd expect from a hospital stay, and it always makes us smile.

One recent patient told us the food was awesome, and the best hospital meals they'd ever had. Comments about the meals turn up again and again in our feedback, even though we never ask about them.

Our kitchen cooks every meal fresh, on site. It's a small thing that matters more than you'd expect when you're recovering somewhere for a few days.

(Quoted anonymously from our patient feedback surveys, with thanks.)

Footy fever hit Adeney this week. 🏉

Our team traded scrubs and lanyards for team scarves at our Grand Final BBQ and the only thing hotter than the grill was the debate on who would win this Saturday.

One thing’s for certain: Although we barrack for plenty of different clubs around here, but on every other day of the week we're one team.

To everyone cheering on the Dockers or the Lions this Saturday, good luck. Freo fans, here's hoping for that first flag. Lions fans, here's to another shot at three in a row. Only one of you gets the fairytale, so whatever happens, give a mate from the other side a hug on Sunday. ⚓️🦁

If you're flying this month, you might come across our CEO, Louise Shardey, in the latest Qantas Magazine.

Louise began her career as a nurse. Today she leads Adeney Private, a hospital built so that members of participating funds pay zero out-of-pocket beyond their excess for the services their policy covers.

When she’s not in the boardroom, you’ll sometimes find her in the operating theatres or popping in to see patients on the ward. “Caring for another human being is a privilege,” says Louise, “and even when you’re leading the team you have to be a part of the team to make a difference.”

You can check out the full story online or the next time you’re a Qantas flight.

We were delighted to welcome Dr Monique Ryan, Member for Kooyong, back to Adeney Private last week.

Dr Ryan has been part of the Adeney story from the very beginning. She turned the first sod when this was still a building site, then cut the ribbon with us on opening day. Last week she called in to catch up with our CEO Louise Shardey and see the hospital in full swing. Thanks for your ongoing support, Monique. Always good to have you here.

Eighteen months of Adeney Private Hospital and we’re redefining what private surgical care can feel like.

If you’re with Medibank or Bupa, your surgical care here is zero out-of-pocket beyond your excess for covered services. Some exceptions, such as non-standard care, may apply.
Most other health fund members are welcome too.

Patients tell us Adeney feels calmer, warmer and more considered than they expected. Come see for yourself, we’re glad you found us.
