Congratulations to our wonderful staff and volunteers, and especially our BeWell team, on your nominations in this year’s Victorian Public Healthcare Awards!

Western Health has been nominated in two categories – Premier’s Large Health Service of the Year, and Excellence in Aged Care.

We are so proud of our BeWell team, nominated for their work to empower older adults through choice, purpose and connection by promoting meaningful activity and social engagement. The program achieved 90% participation, increased time out of bed by 12%, and improved independence and patient experience, with no increase in adverse events 👏👏

Western Health has also been nominated for an award in the category Large Health Service of the Year category, alongside Northern Health and Monash Health. Western Health was nominated for demonstrating excellence in innovation, strong partnerships and a deep commitment to person-centred, equitable care, including the safe and successful opening of the new Footscray Hospital.

Awards winners will be announced at the 20th Victorian Public Healthcare Awards Gala Night on Wednesday, 14 October 2026.

At Western Health, we understand that women’s health is never a one-size-fits all treatment path.

This Women’s Health Week, we’re shining a light on some of our clinicians and the care, expertise and understanding they provide to the women and families they treat.

Our recently opened Pelvic Pain Clinic is a comprehensive service, bringing together specialists in a coordinated setting to address the many causes of pelvic pain. Dr Corinne Glenn is one of the GPs, dedicated to helping women reduce their experience of pelvic pain.

The clinic runs at both Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s at Sunshine Hospital and the Bacchus Marsh Hospital. Please visit your GP for a referral, or visit www.westernhealth.org.au/service/pelvic-pain-clinic for more information.

It’s World Physiotherapy Day, and today we’re shouting out our incredible hospital physios!

Hospital physiotherapists play a crucial role in stroke recovery and rehabilitation. They work across many different services at Western Health, helping patients to restore movement and everyday function in their lives through rehabilitation, lifestyle adjustments, and balance and mobility. They’re always looking for ways to bring enjoyment and fun into exercise (including dancing) and today we acknowledge the incredible breadth of work they do every day.

Happy World Physiotherapy Day to our hospital physios, and to all the amazing physiotherapists out there helping people to live life to the fullest. 💕🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♀️🩺

Andrei’s first Father’s Day is a very special one, with baby Sebastian almost ready to go home after more than 16 weeks in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit 🍼🏥

Baby Sebastian was born prematurely at just 627g, needing a period of time on the ventilator and frequent ultrasounds and blood tests. He now weighs over 3.5kg and is feeding well, and the Newborn Services team are starting to plan his discharge. Andrei and Jonna can’t wait to get him home!

Congratulations, Andrei, on your first Father's Day. You’ll be a great dad 😊

Thank you to all the dads who are there for sick kids, and who are supporting families or loved ones through challenging times.

Today, we also remember the dads who are no longer with us, and those spending today without their children.

To all the fathers, father figures, grandfathers and caregivers in our community – thank you for the love and support you give every day, and happy Father’s Day! ❤️

⚠️Emergency Departments at Sunshine, Footscray and Williamstown hospitals may be impacted tomorrow, 20 August, due to protected industrial action ⚠️ resulting in long wait times for patients with non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call triple zero (000) for urgent help.

We want you to be seen as quickly as possible, so if you need care and it is not an emergency, please consider these alternative pathways to care:

🏗️ Before the first patient walks through the doors of the new Melton Hospital, our teams are already testing out the spaces they’ll be working in.

How do you test a hospital before it's even built?

Inside a Sunshine West warehouse, full-size replica hospital rooms have been created so our clinical, administrative and consumer representatives can walk through the spaces, testing the layouts and equipment before construction is complete.

These realistic mock-ups help us identify what works best for patients and consumers, staff workflows and visitor experience, ensuring the hospital is designed for the people who'll use it every day.

Working alongside the Victorian Health Building Authority, we've also held more than 100 meetings and workshops to help shape the hospital's design.

This collaborative approach is helping create a modern health service that will meet the needs of the growing Melton community. Construction is on track to be finished in 2029.
