At Home Caring South Perth, our goal is to help you maintain your independence, confidence and routine at home for as long as possible. Whether it’s help with personal care, shopping, transport, meals, appointments or simply having someone there for a little extra support, we’re here to make everyday life easier — without taking away your independence.

Have you seen the recent ABC Four Corners investigation into aged care?

The recent Four Corners episode The Waiting Game has raised some important questions about Australia's new aged care system and how older Australians are being assessed for support at home.

One of the key issues highlighted was the use of a computer algorithm to help determine a person's Support at Home funding classification following their assessment.

The investigation shared the experiences of older Australians and families who felt the level of support they received did not reflect their circumstances or care needs.

It also highlighted another significant issue — waiting times.

ABC has reported that almost 154,000 older Australians were waiting for their full level of approved in-home care funding, when people receiving interim funding are included in the count.

For families trying to navigate aged care, information like this can understandably raise questions:

-What does my Support at Home classification mean?
-What happens after an assessment?
-What services can I use my funding for?
-What happens if my care needs change?
-Who can I speak to if I don't understand the outcome?

At Home Caring South Perth, we know the aged care system can sometimes feel complicated.

Our local team is here to help older Australians and their families understand the Support at Home system, their options and what their next steps may be.

You don't need to be a Home Caring client to have a conversation with us. If you're unsure where to start, we're happy to point you in the right direction.

Sometimes having someone explain the process can make things a little easier.
