Afternoon energy dip? Here’s my simple protein-powered hot chocolate hack ☕🍫💪

One of my favourite afternoon boosters is a high protein hot cacao drink - simple, quick, and surprisingly satisfying.

✨ My recipe:
• Hot water (hot, but not boiling)
• 1–2 teaspoons of cacao powder
• 2 scoops of vanilla whey protein powder

The trick? Don’t use boiling hot water as it can make the whey clump and affect the texture. Warm to hot water works best for a smooth, creamy drink.

This is a simple way to increase protein intake, support muscle health, and avoid reaching for ultra-processed afternoon snacks or sugary pick-me-ups.

Especially important in midlife and beyond, when maintaining muscle mass becomes one of the foundations of healthy ageing and metabolic health.

Small habits. Big longevity wins. 👩🏽‍⚕️

🧴🍱 Did you know a major Western Australian study has just shown that reducing plastic exposure can actually make a measurable difference - in only 7 days?

The PERTH Trial, published in Nature Medicine, was conducted here in WA and demonstrated that practical interventions to reduce plastic exposure significantly lowered measurable levels of BPA and phthalates (plastic-associated chemicals) in urine.

Importantly, this wasn’t about perfection or throwing everything out. The study showed that simple, targeted interventions work especially reducing exposure from highly processed, plastic-packaged and canned foods, and making thoughtful changes to food storage and personal care products.

✨ A simple practical example? If you use a frozen ready meal, transfer it from the plastic tray into a ceramic or glass bowl before heating, rather than microwaving it in plastic. Small changes, repeated consistently, can reduce unnecessary exposure.

Why does this matter? Emerging evidence links plastic-associated chemicals to hormone disruption, metabolic dysfunction, inflammation, fertility concerns and long-term health risks.

At our clinic, we can go beyond general advice. We offer the Nutripath Endomap test, helping assess environmental toxin and endocrine disruptor burden so we can create personalised strategies around nutrition, detoxification pathways, lifestyle, supplementation and reducing unnecessary exposures.

Because longevity medicine isn’t only about what we add - it’s also about understanding what may be quietly impacting our health and what we can realistically change.

Gut health, brain health, longevity. 🧠✨

I’m always reading and questioning the evidence around what truly moves the needle in healthy ageing and one theme keeps coming up: the powerful connection between the gut, inflammation, mood, cognition and metabolic health.

Currently reading The Gut-Brain Paradox by Dr Steven Gundry - a thought-provoking look at how the microbiome may influence everything from brain fog and mood to inflammation and chronic disease.

While not every concept in longevity medicine is one-size-fits-all (and evidence continues to evolve), one thing is clear: what we eat, how we sleep, stress, movement, hormones, and the health of our gut microbiome all matter.

In clinic, we focus on personalised, evidence-informed care - because optimal ageing is rarely about one supplement, one diet, or one “magic” answer. It’s about understanding your biology.

What are you reading/listening to right now that’s changed the way you think about health and longevity?

✨ GHK-Cu - part of a modern skin longevity approach ✨

When we talk about longevity, we often think about muscle, hormones, metabolic health and nutrition.

But what about the organ we wear every day?

Your skin.

Healthy skin is not just about appearance - it reflects how we care for ourselves over time.

GHK-Cu (Copper Tripeptide-1) is a naturally occurring peptide found in the body that declines with age, and has become an ingredient of growing interest in skincare science. Other copper peptides have less evidence for reducing signs of ageing.

Why do I like it?

✨ Supports overall skin quality and resilience
✨ Helps support hydration and skin appearance
✨ A thoughtful addition to healthy ageing skincare routines
✨ Pairs beautifully with prescription skincare, in-clinic treatments and personalised skin plans

For me, longevity skincare isn’t about chasing perfection or using 15 products.

It’s about consistent, evidence-informed habits and choosing products thoughtfully.

Because healthy ageing should include caring for the skin we live in.

🧠 Menopause is not just a hormone transition - it is a brain transition.

Emerging evidence suggests that earlier menopause may be associated with accelerated brain ageing, but this is where proactive care matters.

At The Age Less Clinic and General Practice, we focus on supporting brain longevity through an individualised approach - because menopause care is not one-size-fits-all.

For some women, this may include:
✨ Personalised hormone optimisation
💪 Strength training to preserve muscle and metabolic health
🚶🏽 Zone 2 cardio for brain and vascular health
🥗 Nutrition strategies to support cognition and inflammation
😴 Sleep optimisation
🧘🏽 Stress and cortisol management
🪡 Acupuncture to support stress, sleep, nervous system regulation and menopause symptoms

We are fortunate to offer acupuncture with Dr Yoshi Inoue at the clinic, with Medicare rebates available for eligible patients.

Your menopause journey, symptoms, risks and goals are unique and your care plan should be too.

Healthy ageing is not passive. Earlier intervention can help support resilience, cognition and vitality.

Longevity training doesn’t have to be complicated. During a stormy day, it starts with a treadmill, an incline, and a commitment to your future self. 🏃🏽‍♀️

One of the simplest evidence-based ways to support healthy ageing is purposeful incline walking. Inspired by musculoskeletal longevity principles championed by experts like Dr Vonda Wright, this type of training helps build cardiovascular fitness, metabolic health, lower limb strength and resilience - all essential for ageing well.

Today’s session:
✔️ Incline walking
✔️ Building aerobic fitness (your “engine” for longevity)
✔️ Supporting muscle health and healthy metabolism
✔️ Investing in future mobility and independence

For my midlife and menopausal patients, I often talk about the importance of combining:
🏋🏽 Strength training for muscle and bone
🚶🏽 Purposeful walking for cardiovascular health
💥 Short bursts of higher intensity work for fitness reserve

Because longevity isn’t about living longer if you can’t move well, think clearly, or stay independent. The goal is healthspan - staying strong, capable and energetic for decades to come.

Who else loves an incline walk? 👇🏽Comment WALK below and I’ll send you my prescription for time, incline and speed for maximum gains

🐾 Longevity looks a little different on a long weekend…

Sometimes it’s not biohacking, supplements, or the latest treatment. Sometimes longevity is this: slowing down, reducing stress, soaking up connection, and spending time with the ones who keep your nervous system calm (even if they steal your spot on the couch 🐶).

The science of healthy ageing isn’t just about lifespan - it’s about healthspan: joy, routine, movement, good sleep, lower cortisol, and meaningful companionship. And yes, our furry family members may actually help- with studies showing pet ownership can support mental wellbeing, physical activity, and even cardiovascular health.

Here’s your reminder for the Perth long weekend: rest, recharge, move your body, get some sunshine, and spend time with those who fill your cup ❤️

What’s your favourite longevity ritual this long weekend?

✨ Some amazing clinical wins are worth sharing. ✨

I’ve recently had the privilege of seeing meaningful improvements in two patients living with lipoedema through a truly holistic, multidisciplinary approach at The Age Less Clinic and General Practice.

Their journey began with an OT assessment that helped identify and diagnose lipoedema - a condition that is still too often missed or misunderstood. From there, we brought together a personalised management plan involving nutritional support, OT-led lymphatic drainage massage, targeted lifestyle interventions, and movement strategies.

We also incorporated in one patient the ProDeep laser remodelling with Dr Govindappa, skin and laser specialist GP to help reverse some of the tissue changes associated with lipoedema.

The results? Reduced symptoms, improved function, and encouraging changes in their lipoedema journey. 💫

Lipoedema is complex, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. But when general practice, allied health, evidence-informed lifestyle medicine, regenerative laser technology and functional medicine principles come together, meaningful change can happen.

At The Age Less Clinic and General Practice, we are proud to offer a collaborative, whole-person approach to longevity and chronic health concerns- including lipoedema management.

⚖️ Why do I recommend acupuncture for some patients with high cortisol or stress-related symptoms?

Chronic stress doesn’t just feel unpleasant- it can influence sleep, blood sugar, abdominal fat, inflammation, mood, peri/menopausal symptoms, skin health and overall longevity. When cortisol remains elevated for prolonged periods, many people feel “wired but tired,” anxious, inflamed, or struggle with restorative sleep.

Acupuncture is one tool I recommend as part of a broader longevity and stress-management approach. Emerging evidence suggests it may help support autonomic nervous system balance (shifting from constant “fight or flight” into more parasympathetic “rest and repair”), improve sleep quality, reduce perceived stress and support emotional wellbeing. It’s not a magic bullet-but in the right patient, it can be a valuable adjunct alongside lifestyle medicine, nutrition, exercise, sleep optimisation and medical care.

That’s why we’re pleased to offer acupuncture at the clinic with Dr Yoshi Inoue. If pain, stress, burnout, poor sleep, hormonal symptoms or feeling chronically “on edge” are affecting your health, this may be worth exploring as part of a personalised plan.
