Youth Mental Health First Aid Course 🧠

Live4Life Glenelg is hosting a community Youth Mental Health First Aid course in Portland.

Adults who undertake the Youth Mental Health First Aid training course will have a better understanding of common mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, eating disorders and psychosis.

This course also teaches adults to learn how to identify the signs and symptoms of a developing mental health problem in a young person, how to have a conversation with them when they are in distress or crisis, and how to support them in receiving professional help.

This accredited course is delivered in 2x 7 hour blocks. Both sessions must be completed to gain accreditation.

🚨The Virtual Emergency Department

The Virtual Emergency Department provides free video calls with emergency doctors and nurses for urgent but non-life-threatening health concerns. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Callers do not need a GP referral, appointment or Medicare card. Victorians can access the service via phone, tablet or computer. www.ved.vic.gov.au

Join a Victorian public health board

The Department of Health is seeking applications for part-time Board Director positions at Portland District Health Appointment terms start on 1 July 2027 and are for up to three years.

These roles offer a unique opportunity to contribute to Victoria’s public health system by providing strategic leadership, oversight and accountability to support safe, high-quality and effective healthcare for Victorians. As a board director, you will hold an important position of trust, helping ensure health services operate with integrity and with a strong focus on patient outcomes.

Appointments are based on capabilities and the professional and lived experience applicants can bring to the strategic leadership of Victoria’s public health system.

We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences, including First Nations people, people living with a disability, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, LGBTIQA+ people, and those living in rural and regional Victoria. Living in Victoria, or in a border community near Victorian health services, is preferred.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the capabilities identified in their applications.

Applications close Sunday 22 November 2026.

Dr Arne will share practical insights and advice for parents and carers on navigating the teenage years in a technology-driven world — from building resilience and healthy relationships to supporting young people as they grow into adulthood.
The evening will also feature a workshop from Kate at the Human Development Workshop, offering further insights into adolescent development, alongside a youth panel featuring local young people, sharing their perspectives and experiences.

📣Regional Health Infrastructure Fund 2026–27 📣

Portland District Health has secured $6,025,577 through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund (RHIF) 2026–27 for a major redevelopment of its Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD).
The funding will replace ageing equipment and modernise a department critical to surgical and birthing services.
The project includes two new steam sterilisers, endoscope reprocessing equipment, low-temperature sterilisation technology, digital instrument tracking, a reverse osmosis water plant and a complete department reconfiguration.
The redevelopment will improve efficiency, strengthen instrument traceability, reduce the risk of theatre disruptions and provide staff with a modern working environment that meets contemporary standards and compliance requirements.
“This investment supports the continued delivery of local surgical care in Portland, while giving staff modern equipment and improved workflows to meet current and future service needs.
“It is an important investment in PDH’s long-term sustainability and our ability to provide high-quality care to the community for years to come.”
