In Canada, surrogacy is altruistic, meaning Surrogates cannot be paid to carry a pregnancy. Under the Assisted Human Reproduction Act, Surrogates may be reimbursed for eligible expenses directly related to their surrogacy journey but they cannot receive payment for being a Surrogate.

This approach is designed to protect everyone involved while recognizing the time, commitment, and expenses that come with helping someone build their family. ❀️
