What's on your to do list? Sometimes it feels like there's a million things to do and then someone usually mentions "self care". How... when...
Self care doesn't have to be this big thing. I define self care as anything that fills your mental and emotional cup.

- reading a chapter in a book
- sitting for five minutes with a warm cup of coffee
- belting out a really good song I haven't heard in years
- acknowledging my intrinsic worth as a human being
- telling my therapist about the ups and downs

All of these things are self care, and there are thousands more! Tell me, what do you do for self care?

When people ask me what kind of person or counsellor I am or want to be, this is the answer. In a world that is harsh, let me be soft. Let me slow down. Let me be as steady and consistent. Let me hold space to allow others to feel seen and heard.

There is an unspoken cycle that happens inside. The cycle of trying to get our needs met while also meeting the needs of the important people in our lives. Through circumstance, choice, or lack of awareness with no fault, oftentimes needs get missed. Theirs. Ours. At the end of the day, it sucks; an it's okay to acknowledge that it sucks. This is often where we start to lash out. Yelling, bitterness, passivity, aggression, isolation, and more. There is a reason behind the behaviour.
I am Triggered.
What does that mean? Triggered is a word often thrown about without knowing what it means. Being triggered often refers to re-experiencing trauma symptoms when reminded of a trauma. So lets find the root of the trigger. The FEELING behind the trigger. Lets start asking ourselves "what triggered me?" And let's listen to our own responses and permit ourselves to feel seen and heard.

"Happy Mother’s Day" can have some mixed feelings around it. But I’m here to say happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. Weather you are a mother, have lost children, lost mothers, are doing it alone, those who have nurtured and care for others like a mother, those who wish to be a mother, those who have chosen not to be a mother, those who have a difficult relationship with mothers or children. Weather you are healing mother wounds, or have mothered yourself when others didn’t, or have animal kiddos.

Happy Mother’s Day. I hope you celebrate you. Know that I see you and I am here to hold space for you. I know it is heavy to choose you when we’re so used to sacrificing for others. Today however I encourage a few moments to chose you; to acknowledge the courage and strength you have (even if you don’t want to have that strength). I encourage us to all take a moment and say “I did good. I am doing good”. Though we may not yet believe it take a moment to celebrate it anyway.
