Your eyes tell a story.
As optometrists, we’re not just checking if you can read the letters on the chart, we’re looking for clues about your eye health and your overall health.
👁️ You wear your contact lenses longer than you should.
Tiny blood vessels, inflammation, and changes to the surface of your eye often give it away. Even if your contacts still feel comfortable, your eyes may be telling a different story.
💻 You spend A LOT of time on screens.
Your tear film, the dry spots on your cornea, the eye strain, or even difficulty getting your prescription are the clues. Hours at a computer often show up long before you mention your job.
🔥 You have systemic inflammation.
Your eyes can sometimes reflect what’s happening elsewhere in your body. Certain inflammatory conditions can leave telltale signs that prompt us to ask about your overall health or recommend further investigation.
🌿 Your allergies are flaring up.
The pattern of redness, swelling, and tiny bumps on the inside of your eyelids is often unmistakable. Many people think they just have “dry eyes” when allergies are actually the culprit.
🤓 You bought cheap glasses online.
Poorly centered lenses, incorrect measurements, and lower quality optics can all show up in the exam room. Not to mention a poor fitting frame! If your glasses never feel quite right, it isn’t always your prescription, sometimes it’s how they were made.
