📢 Looking for a family doctor or nurse practitioner? Join our research study.

Many people in Canada are having trouble finding a family doctor or nurse practitioner. People who face barriers to healthcare, including newcomers, racialized communities, people with disabilities, and those with lower incomes, may experience even greater challenges accessing primary care.

Our research study is looking to evaluate different methods to engage and support people who face barriers to accessing primary care.

✅ Who can participate?
You may be eligible if you:
• Are 18 years or older
• Do not currently have a family doctor or nurse practitioner
• Are actively looking for one
• Live in one of these Toronto postal code areas:
M2R, M3H, M3J, M3K, M3L, M3M, M3N, M4A, M4B, M4C, M4E, M4G, M4H, M4J, M4K, M4L, M4M, M4Y, M5E, M6A, M6B, M6L, M6M, M7Y, M9L, M9M, M9N, M9P, M9R, M9V, M9W

✅ What does participation involve?
Participants will receive either:
• Information about a clinic in their area that is accepting new patients, or
• Information about resources that can help them find a family doctor.
We will call you 3-4 weeks later to ask if you were able to find a family doctor.

✅ Why participate?
• You may receive support in finding a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
• Your participation may help improve attachment to primary care for Canadians especially those who face barriers to healthcare.

Join our team! We're hiring 3 Postdoctoral Fellows for the PREPARED initiative, funded by the Canada Biomedical Research Fund and led by Dr. Andrew Pinto from the Upstream Lab: https://preparedcanada.org/jobs/

PREPARED is a national research study that aims to help Canada prepare for a future pandemic by identifying the spread of new and existing viruses, improving rapid testing for respiratory infections, accelerating the development of treatments and vaccines, and linking patients to clinical trials.

We're hiring 3 Postdoctoral Fellows with an anticipated start date of January 2027. (Start date can be flexible.) One of the positions will be supported through the Canada Impact+ program, intended to recruit top international or returning Canadian talent.

Have you completed research on interventions to address structural determinants of health that you would love to share? Submit abstracts of your completed work for the 'Moving Upstream' conference.

Submission Requirements:
✍️ Abstracts must be a maximum of 250 words on interventions to address structural determinants of health. Study proposals and protocols will not be accepted. Abstracts will be accepted for either posters or oral presentations.

The 'Moving Upstream' conference comes at a critical moment as we seek to deepen our understanding of the structural determinants of health, identify key knowledge gaps, and chart a path forward for research, policy, and practice. The event will convene academics, research funders, policymakers, health system leaders, and trainees who are committed to advancing work in this area.

The conference day will conclude with a reception marking the 10-year anniversary of Upstream Lab – based at MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions, St. Michael's Hospital, Unity Health Toronto – and celebrating its contributions to advancing upstream approaches to health equity.
