steps2work is a non-profit Employment Training Centre focused on assisting people with disabilities, primarily psychiatric disability as well as those with other disabilities who have a mental health issue, to secure and maintain employment. Our Mission

Today at 10:00am, we have Top 10: Cover Letter Tips where we'll take a look at why these documents are essential to job search, and pointers for creating cover letters that get noticed by employers for all the right reasons.

Good morning,

This morning at 10:00am, we have Top 10: Constructive Criticism where we'll learn how to accept critical feedback and use it to fuel skill development and future successes. This workshop incudes a quick mindfulness exercise that, when practiced regularly, is fantastic at retraining our brains (and ourselves!) to accept both criticism and compliments in an effective manner.

This afternoon at 1:30pm is Coffee Club and we be making collages! Participants will cut, tear, and glue paper, photos, etc., onto a flat surface to make new art.

This morning at 10:00am, we have Top 10: Communication Makers and Breakers, where we'll take a look at communication habits that tend to derail and break down conversation. Then we'll learn the transferrable skills to develop to improve and increase communication in relationships of all kinds.

This afternoon at 1:30pm, we have Disclosure of a Disability, which explains protections under the law and the advantages to disclosing disabilities to new employers.

Good morning,

Tuesdays at 10:00am, we have Mindful Movement with Caryn leading participants through a routine of gentle yet effective stretching, breath work, meditation and mindfulness. This approach regulates the nervous system, while exercising the body and soothing the person.

Good morning,

This morning at 10:00am, we have Top 10: Re-Entering the Workforce, where we'll take a look at how to address some of the most common challenges of returning to job search after a hiatus from the workforce. This one is all about being proactive, proper preparation, and developing/using assertiveness skills!

Our afternoon workshop today is Identify and Avoid Phishing Scams, which provides information and tips for recognizing scams. We’ll also take a look at different types of scams, why they work, and how to avoid and report them. This workshop always stirs up interesting dialogue and cautionary tales of experience with scams.

Good morning,

This morning at 10:00am, we have Top 10: Time Management, where we’ll take a look at ways to use time to our best advantage. Building helpful habits and scheduling our days mindfully empowers us to grow, fulfill our responsibilities, and reach our goals.

This afternoon at 1:30pm we have Coffee Club, and this week we'll be spending some time outdoors (weather depending) and playing the lawn game ladder ball!

Good morning,

This morning at 10:00am, we have Top 10: S.M.A.R.T. Stop, which explains how to use the S.M.A.R.T. mnemonic to develop a plan to stop habits and behaviors that no longer serve us. Using this popular approach makes it much more likely that we will build new systems and skills that support us to develop more effective habits that in turn assist us in reaching our goals.

Next up at 1:30pm, this afternoon is Elevator Speech, where participants will learn the essentials, and be provided with a simple template to develop their own elevator pitch. Participants who have previously attended this workshop will be given the opportunities to get feedback for edits, and practice delivering their speech.

Good morning,

This morning at 10:00am, we have Top 11: Body Language, where we'll take a look at this often-forgotten part of communication, and learn some pointers for aligning it with our intentions.

Next up at 1:30pm, we have Assertiveness, where we will compare and contrast different communication styles to understand assertiveness and why it’s such an effective way of being. The handouts for this workshop include worksheet and templates of scripts to use for practice and preparation.
