This week, 18–24 May, marks Dementia Action Week. 💙

Dementia is the UK's biggest killer. Every 3 minutes, someone in the UK develops it. 1 in 3 people born today will go on to develop dementia in their lifetime. These are not just statistics - behind each one is a person, a family, a community navigating something incredibly difficult.

Dementia Action Week is a reminder of how important awareness, patience and understanding are in helping people feel safe, valued and supported within their own homes and communities.💙

Today (4 May) is a public holiday, so many healthcare services, including GP practices, dentists, and some pharmacies, will be closed.

This will mean other teams like NHS 24 and hospital emergency departments will be busier.

For minor illnesses or injuries, self-care is often the best and quickest option.

The NHS Inform website offers plenty of advice and guides on managing common complaints so it’s a good first port of call.
