Creative Recovery

Creative Recovery People are at the heart of what we do. We use a person-centred approach to create safe spaces, where people can flourish.

Creative Recovery is a people-led charity that uses creativity to support recovery, boost wellbeing and bring about social change in Barnsley. We work with individuals and families with experience of mental health and/or drug and alcohol issues. Creative Recovery is a small grassroots charity, driven by a community of people with lived experience of using creativity to support their own health and

wellbeing and to make positive change. We draw on a collective of artists and practitioners with broad and extensive experience of working across arts/culture/health and wellbeing. We are also keen collaborators, and enjoy working with partners that share our values, passion and who aren't afraid to try something new.

At Live Arts Cafe tonight we had a double-artist whammy!

Winston worked with people looking at, and (of course) writing, wonderful words.

Joanne lead everyone through exercise in creating awesome animated playing card characters - which are shared here. They are so fun!

What a wonderful evening!

A huge thank you to everyone who came to our AGM last night. We signed off our new mission and vision, shared news of future developments and opportunities and presented refreshed structures that will enable responsive growth for a truely galvanised and empowered community. 💪💪💪💪💪

As happens when you are immersed in things we only got this one lonely photo. ❤️

Our Summer Saving event for Creative Health Practitioners last night was a lovely way to commemorate the end of summer.

It was a fun and relaxed meet-up with summer-themed goody bags for everyone who attended, music from Katrina Tia Charles, amazing food generously donated by Old George, and some lovely activities by National Trust.

Last but not least, thank you to our wonderful hosts Barnsley Civic! You are awesome!

The Uplift Choir is back in business!
We’ve rested our voices, limbered up our vocal cords (or something like that 😂) and we’re ready to get singing again!

📅 Thursday 27th August
🕑 2–4pm
📍 St Paul’s Church Hall (off Greenfoot Lane)

No auditions, no solos — just singing together because it makes us feel good. 💛

There’s also plenty of time for a chat, a cuppa and a biscuit ☕🍪

It’s completely free (donations welcome) and you don’t need to let us know you’re coming — just pop along!
See you Thursday!
