💜 National Grief Awareness Day 💜

Grief is the empty chair.
The voice you still expect to hear.
The person you instinctively want to call.
The memories that can make you smile and cry at the very same time.

Grief has no timetable. It doesn’t simply disappear because time has passed. We learn to carry it, because grief is ultimately the price we pay for having loved someone deeply.

Today, on National Grief Awareness Day, we remember everyone living with the absence of someone they love.

Be gentle with yourself. Talk about them. Share their stories. Say their name. Keep their memory close.

Because although their chair may be empty, the place they hold in our hearts never will be. 🤍

Many people don’t realise that at Haycombe we offer the option of an attended direct cremation.

Our Orchard Entrance provides a simple, peaceful setting where families can say a quiet goodbye. This space can accommodate up to six people, allowing for a short but personal moment of reflection together before the cremation takes place.

It’s a gentle alternative for those who would prefer something more intimate, offering the chance to be present without a formal service.

If you would like to learn more about this option, our team is here to support you with care and understanding 💛

Meet Sally Hart
Hart Funeral Celebrancy

I have been a funeral celebrant for about 5 years now.
I was lucky enough to be supported through my Diploma by Haycombe Cemetery and Bath and North East Somerset Council, but have now taken the opportunity to retire from full time work a little early, and set up as an Independent Funeral Celebrant.
It’s been an interesting journey to this point, having been a Secondary School Pastoral Guidance Manager, then a Registrar, registering births, deaths and marriages, and conducting many, many marriage services.
Yet I always felt drawn to working with the bereaved, which I was able to do during my time at Haycombe. The greatest privilege in my career was working alongside families in this capacity, and when the opportunity to step into my current role came along, I did not hesitate for a moment.
What is the most important thing that I have learned so far? That you must never assume how the death of a loved one will make people feel. That the emotion of grief is incredibly diverse and complicated, and that my role in that is to listen well and then try to capture that essence in a service that reflects exactly what is needed.

I have also learned that a funeral is very much a joint creation, from the moment that you visit the Funeral Director, to the appointment of a celebrant, to meeting with the family, something new and personal is created each time.
This is the journey that we all feel the privilege of travelling with you.
We are so grateful that you trust us with this.
Thank you
Sally

Armed Forces Day, we pay tribute to the brave men and women who have dedicated their lives to serving our country.

As funeral directors, we understand the importance of honouring a life lived with courage, commitment and selfless service. It is a privilege to help families say goodbye to veterans and serving personnel with the dignity, respect and gratitude they so richly deserve.

We remember those who have served, those who continue to serve, and the families who stand beside them every step of the way.

From all of us, thank you for your service and sacrifice.

Happy Armed Forces Day. 🇬🇧

Every Goodbye is Special

No two lives are the same, and no two farewells should be either.

Whether it’s a favourite song, a cherished hobby, a meaningful colour, or a personal tribute that reflects a lifetime of memories, the smallest details can make a goodbye truly special.

We are honoured to help families create personal and meaningful funerals that celebrate the unique life of their loved one, ensuring every farewell is as individual as the person being remembered.

❤️ Because every life tells a story, and every story deserves a special goodbye. ❤️
