Ahead of Father's Day, new OnePoll research commissioned by Practice Plus Group Hospitals reveals an important shift in family healthcare dynamics.
The survey of 2000 UK adults found that:
๐น 57% of adults now play an active role in managing a parent's healthcare
๐น 73% say their dad is likely to downplay or joke about pain or symptoms
๐น 66% believe their father has delayed seeking medical support
๐น Nearly one-third say their father is currently waiting for consultations, tests, treatment or surgery
While many of us will recognise familiar "dadisms" such as "it's just old age" or "I've overdone it a bit", the research highlights that ongoing pain, mobility issues and health concerns shouldn't be dismissed as a normal part of ageing.
