Great support from the Veterinary Medicines Directorate for the inaugural and recognition that SQPs are at the heart of ensuring veterinary medicines are supplied and used responsibly, providing trusted advice to animal owners and helping safeguard both animal health and the wider environment.

The VMD’s CEO Abi Seager and Head of Inspections and Lee Grist attended our House of Lords event last Thursday to help mark the start of this important week and to celebrate the newly qualified AMTRA SQPs entering the profession with the presentation of our annual awards.

We’re proud to support the inaugural celebrating the essential role of Suitably Qualified Persons (SQPs) across the UK.

SQPs are at the heart of ensuring veterinary medicines are supplied and used responsibly, providing trusted advice to animal owners and helping safeguard both animal health and the wider environment.

We welcome AMTRA's support of the government’s campaign, which highlights the responsible use and disposal of parasiticides.

SQPs play a vital role in raising awareness with animal owners helping to minimise environmental impacts while protecting animal welfare.

Watch our latest interview below with horse owner, Claire Salih and featuring AMTRA SQP Mark Pass. One of Claire's horses fell seriously ill due to a severe infestation of encysted small redworms. Mark worked with Claire and in collaboration with her vet to treat the horse who happily made a full recovery.

Castle Farm Vets - great to hear how SQPs are playing such a key and collaborative role as part of the vet practice team!

🌟 National SQP Week 🌟

As we continue celebrating National SQP Week, we’d like to recognise the invaluable contribution our SQP team makes to Castle Farm Vets every day.

Pictured alongside our Senior Clinical Director, Will Barker, are our fantastic SQPs: Kathryn Davis, Rachel Dent, Emma Dobinson and Lucy Mulley. Their knowledge, dedication and commitment to supporting our farming clients play a vital role in the services we provide.

Will Barker says:

“Bringing SQPs into the practice team over the last six years has allowed us to offer a more rounded approach to parasite management for our clients. Having vets and SQPs working within the same team enables us to provide a fully integrated approach to worm and external parasite management in herds and flocks. This has often resulted in reduced parasiticide use through more sustainable planning and targeted testing programmes.”

Thank you to all of our SQPs for the expertise, advice and support they provide to both our clients and colleagues. We are incredibly proud to have such a knowledgeable and dedicated team here at Castle Farm Vets. AMTRA

Gatleys Country Store & Pet Shop Horsham - great to hear all about your amazing SQPs

The first ever launches today and runs from 5–12 June 2026 ....and here are your Gatley’s SQPs!

National SQP Week is a brand-new, nationwide celebration of the vital role that Suitably Qualified Persons (SQPs), also known as RAMAs (Registered Animal Medicines Advisors), play in protecting the health and wellbeing of pets, horses, livestock and birds across the UK.

There are four SQPS/RAMAs at Gatley’s - two are based at our Gatley’s Country Store & Saddlery and two at our Gatley’s Horsham store (Plummers Plain).

National SQP Week is an opportunity to highlight the professionalism, expertise, and essential value that SQPs bring to animal health.

SQPs are qualified and regulated professionals who give safe, practical, and personalised advice on animal medicines and wider welfare. They can prescribe and supply certain animal medicines. Their knowledge helps the owners of pets, livestock, horses and birds to make informed choices about the health and welfare of their animals.

If you need advice or medicines for your animals, it’s best to:

- Call before you visit us to make sure the relevant SQPs are available (phone numbers below) so that the appropriate SQP for your particular animal(s) is available to assist you.

- Ask us to check availability of any medicines you believe you may need before visiting us.

As always, we are here to help you.
