"What do people usually do with the ashes?" ⚱️

Some already know. Others aren't ready to decide.

It's not a decision that needs to be made right away.

A garden of remembrance remains the most popular choice in the UK, though the places people choose are often shaped by the more ordinary parts of someone's life. A favourite walk. The nearby coast. A rugby club. The SunLife Cost of Dying Report found that 2% of ashes were scattered at a sports ground or clubs connected to personal memories.

Not every family will want to scatter ashes. We speak to many looking for a way to keep their loved ones close. Memorial jewellery has become one such way.

With Father's Day later in the month, fingerprint pieces or resin jewellery are one way some families choose to remember a special man no longer with them.

We work with trusted partners, like Lovelox Lockets, who make bespoke memorial jewellery for those looking for a lasting keepsake.

Funeral plans are often spoken about in broad terms.

One of the first things people usually want to understand is what is actually included, what is not and whether there could be additional costs later on.

Our funeral director services are covered within our Golden Charter Funeral Plans, with those costs fixed at today's prices once the plan is fully paid for*.

There are also third-party costs linked to burial or cremation which sit outside funeral director fees. Depending on the plan selected, a contribution towards some of these costs may also be included.

We make sure the difference is explained clearly, so families know what to expect.

We've outlined some of the typical costs and services 👇

If you would like to speak to somebody directly about funeral planning, cremation or burial costs, our team is always available to take you through your options 👇

*Or after 12 consecutive payments if paying by instalments, provided payments remain up to date.

Funeral Bagpipes lunchtime today at Wenallt Chapel, , for a Welsh born Gentleman, who had worked and lived in Scotland for some time.

On the approach to the chapel, I played the requested: "Flower of Scotland" and "Calon Lan".

Departing the chapel, I played the requested: "Going Home" with "Piobaireachd" Salute.

Our Condolences to the family & friends.

Some readers may find this post difficult as it discusses miscarriage and baby loss.

Hospital appointments, scans and due dates can stay fixed in people's minds long afterwards.

What many parents remember just as clearly is how difficult conversations became. Met with silence, over-explaining repeatedly or worried about upsetting others.

Support after miscarriage is receiving more national attention following discussions around Tommy's Graded Model of Miscarriage Care, which focuses on improving communication and consistency for families during pregnancy loss.

Jude Davies from our Family Support Team is also co-founder of Morgan’s Wings - Miscarriage Support, supporting families across South Wales affected by miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal loss.

Morgan's Wings provide resources and practical support, including a Thought Diary, helping parents put words around thoughts that can feel difficult to carry privately. This month Jude will also be sharing advice and guidance for anyone coping with baby loss.

If things feel difficult right now, these organisations offer support and information for parents and families coping with loss 👇

Recent discussions around ISA allowances have prompted many people to review how they plan for the future.

A funeral plan allows you to fix the cost of a funeral at today's prices, protecting against increases in the years ahead.

It also offers flexible ways to spread the cost, making it easier to plan in a way that suits your circumstances.

We partner with Golden Charter Funeral Plans, one of the UK's largest funeral plan providers*, helping over 1 million people plan ahead, regardless of age and health.

If you'd like to understand how a funeral plan works, our team is here to talk you through your options 👇

We were reminded recently how often families choose seasonal funeral flowers 🪻

When family and friends gathered at Rumney Baptist Church to honour the life of Sandra Hockey, they chose lilacs to remember a remarkable woman.

Sandra was someone of tremendous faith and love, reflected in the number of people who came together to celebrate her life, including her children and church community.

Fitting then that the family chose lilacs, a fragrant bloom long associated with love and remembrance.

Our thanks to Rob and Sandra's family for trusting us with the arrangements and allowing us to share pictures from the service.

The family remains in our thoughts 💜

Direct cremation has become more widely discussed in recent years.

The SunLife Cost of Dying Report (2026) shows that while direct cremations continue to rise, attended cremations remain the most common choice, accounting for 53% of funerals.

Understanding what a direct cremation includes and what it doesn't can help you decide whether it reflects what you want.

In most cases, a direct cremation does not include:
❌ A service at the crematorium
❌ A procession or cortege
❌ An opportunity for family or friends to attend

The simplicity appeals to some. Others prefer being present, travelling as a family or holding a service. We started the month with Dying Matters Week – where early conversations about what matters most can help shape final farewells.

If you are considering a direct cremation, we provide a local service, caring for your loved one with dignity and arranging everything within the Cardiff area.

Last month we spoke about how funeral traditions have changed over time.

That often shows in the details on the day itself.

Travelling together can be an important part of the funeral. It gives family and friends time to support one another, share memories and arrive together at the service.

Our silver fleet offers an alternative to the more traditional black vehicles, while maintaining the same level of care and dignity, with each vehicle prepared by our team on the day.

A final journey can reflect the life being remembered, just as much as the service itself.

If you have any special requests or would like to see the transport options available, you can find more information here👇

The Coles Team were out in full force last night for a much-needed team night out — and most importantly, to give our wonderful Kim the send-off she truly deserves as she begins her well-earned retirement. 💔✨

Our day-to-day work is centred around care, compassion, dignity and respect — values we all hold incredibly close to our hearts. So it was really special to spend an evening together filled with laughter, fun, memories and genuine connection. 🥰💕

Kim, thank you for everything you’ve given to the team, the families you’ve cared for, and the friendships you’ve built along the way. Your kindness and warmth will be impossible to replace.

And just so you know… if retirement ever gets a little too quiet, the door is always open. We miss you already! 😘
