Meet Beth | Music Therapist 🎶

We’re pleased to welcome Beth to Elephant Rooms, where she’ll offer Music Therapy for children, young people, and adults.

Music Therapy can be a way of exploring emotions, experiences and relationships without relying only on words. Sessions can include listening, making music, songwriting, movement, talking or simply using music as a way to connect.

There’s no need to be musical, play an instrument or know exactly what you want to say.

Beth’s approach is flexible and shaped around the person in front of her, with the aim of creating a space that feels comfortable, accessible and meaningful.

She works with a wide range of people, including those affected by trauma, neurodivergence, learning disabilities and additional needs.

THRIVE is back! 🎶✨

On Saturday 3rd October, we’ll be opening the doors at Elephant Rooms for the fourth instalment of THRIVE — a different kind of Saturday night, built around creativity, connection, conversation, music and movement.

This time we’re joined by Saima Majid, exploring the question:

How can we stay rooted amidst a fractured world?

Drawing on her journey through creativity, spirituality, Islamic faith and heritage, Saima will invite us into a conversation around purpose, intuition, resilience and what it means to stay grounded and open-hearted in uncertain times. Saima Majid | Art • Wellbeing • Personal Growth

We’ll also welcome Alan Brown, an East Midlands guitarist, composer and loop performer, sharing his original music with us live.

Alongside our special guests, expect music, movement and meditation with Lucas Brooks, a relaxed and encouraging open mic with Sami Sami Lawson plus a pop-up bar, tea and snacks with Finlay from Finlay Mahoney

Come along, join in, dip in and out, or simply find a space and take it all in.

🎭 This Thursday!

There’s still time to get involved in Ofsted Fred, a new community theatre project with local playwright and MENtal Wealth Group facilitator Alan Dawson

Whether you fancy getting involved on stage, helping behind the scenes, or simply coming along to find out more, join us this Thursday at 7pm for the first readthrough.

No experience needed, just come along and see where it takes you!

🎭 Ever fancied giving acting a go?

Or maybe you’d rather help behind the scenes? Whether you’ve been on stage for years or never set foot on one, this is your chance to get involved in something special.

Join us on Thursday 27th August at 7pm for the first readthrough of Ofsted Fred, a brand-new community play led by local playwright Alan Dawson. It’s a chance to meet people, hear the script, and find out how you can get involved.

No experience. No pressure. Just a chance to meet new people, have a laugh, learn something new, and be part of a creative project from the very beginning.

Many of you will already know Alan as the facilitator of our popular MENtal Wealth Group. We’re delighted to support him as he brings this exciting new community theatre project to life.

Come along to the readthrough and find out what it’s all about. We’d love to see some new faces. 🎬✨

August has brought a slower pace to Elephant Rooms, and we’ve rather enjoyed it. ☀️🌿

While things have been a little quieter at the centre, we’ve been chipping away at UpperDown Meadow, watching it grow, making brilliant progress and enjoying everything this glorious summer has brought with it.

The outdoor kitchen is taking shape, the meadow is full of life and our nature cam has been catching a few of the locals when they think nobody’s watching… 👀🦡

Our weekly Thursday drop-in sessions at UpperDown Meadow are still running, so come and spend some time with us. 💚

Drop us a comment or send us a message if you’d like to get involved.

There is so much creativity within our wonderful community…

Poetry written and shared. Music played. Songs sung. Stories told. So many beautiful things created by the people who walk through our doors. ✨

At our last Thrive, Enlight - Sukhi Sian shared some of her poetry. This is called When I Becomes We, accompanied by Lucas on the handpan.

We usually only share little glimpses from these events, but with Thrive coming back around in October, we thought we’d share this one with you in full.

So here it is. Take a moment and enjoy Sukhi’s words.💞
