This week we had the pleasure of visiting Specialised Orthotic Services for a fantastic behind-the-scenes tour of their factory and an up-close look at some of the innovative products they provide.

From the Nimbo gait trainer and Moxie mobility products to the Otter Bath Seat, it was great for the KW Therapy team to get hands-on experience with the range and learn more about how these products can support children and families in everyday life.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing a closer look at some of the SOS products we explored during our visit — so stay tuned! 👀

A huge thank you to everyone at Specialised Orthotic Services for making us feel so welcome and for such an informative day.

ABI Awareness Week – Loneliness & Brain Injury!
A brain injury can change life overnight.
Fatigue, memory difficulties, sensory overload and communication challenges can make everyday interactions feel overwhelming.
What many people don’t see is the impact this has on loneliness.
Social situations can feel unpredictable and exhausting. Confidence drops, roles change, and people may begin to withdraw — not because they want to, but because it feels too much.
Occupational Therapy plays a key role in rebuilding this connection:
✨ Grading return to community activities
✨ Supporting memory and planning
✨ Managing fatigue and sensory challenges
✨ Building confidence and flexibility in real-life situations
Even something as simple as going for a coffee can take huge effort — but with the right support, it becomes possible again.
Loneliness after ABI isn’t always visible — but the barriers are real.
OT helps people reconnect with their world 💚

ABI week this year is all about raising awareness of the impact that isolation and loneliness can have on Brain Injury survivors and their families!

The results are striking, with 87% of brain injury survivors and 85% of carers feeling lonely! Losing your independence, your focus and role in life whether that be a manager at work, a parent or friend or missing social events, traveling or just going out to the shop, Brain Injury impacts everyone greatly!

Have a look at the video Headway have put together, click the link and learn more and keep a look out over the rest of the week for more info!

We said thank you and good luck but not good bye to our lovely OT student Kelly who we were long arm supervising through Headway Central Lancashire. She has spent a whole 10 weeks with Headway CL learning about all the charity does, how they support people with ABI and the families and how OT could really benefit the members. She has been such a fabulous member of the team and during her time has completed several projects such as ‘We’ve got you’ care packs for those in hospital as well as designing an ABI information booklet for those who have experienced a Brain Injury. She also spent a small amount of time with KW Therapy Ltd and got to see how OT in private practice works.
It’s been great to get to know you Kelly, good luck for the next year and we know you have the qualities to be a fantastic OT so just keep going and believe in yourself! Keep in touch!
