We provide compassionate support that puts people first, strengthens local connections, and ensures no one feels forgotten or alone. We are dedicated to empowering both our staff and clients to live their best lives with dignity, respect, and a genuine determination to make a difference in healthcare. We support adults aged 18 and over, including individuals living with Dementia, ADHD, ASD, learning difficulties, and mental health challenges. 💜🎉 HAPPY 1ST WORK ANNIVERSARY, CHELSEA! 🎉💜

Today we’re celebrating one whole year of having our wonderful Chelsea as part of the Riverside family! 🥳

Chelsea wears a few hats here at Riverside as our Nail Therapist, Office Administrator & Content Coordinator, working alongside Hannah and Sarah in the office and creating most of the content you see across our social media pages. 💻📱

From the very beginning, Chelsea has been incredible. Watching her confidence grow day by day has been so lovely, and it’s been wonderful to see her settle into her role, find her feet and build such a lovely working relationship with our very own office superstar, Sarah. 💜 The two of them make a brilliant team!

Chelsea, thank you for everything you do behind the scenes, from keeping on top of office admin and helping bring our social media to life, to making sure our clients receive their birthday cards and know they’re being thought of. 🎂💌 It’s often the little things that make the biggest difference, and you play such an important part in making Riverside what it is.

💜 Are you registered for the Priority Services Register?

With the unsettled weather and potential disruption on the way, it’s a good time to check whether you or someone you care about could benefit from extra support during a power cut or other utility disruption.

The Priority Services Register (PSR) is a free service provided by energy suppliers and network operators for people who may need additional support. This can include older people, people with disabilities, those with certain medical needs, and households who may be particularly vulnerable during an interruption to their electricity or gas supply.

Being registered may help ensure you receive additional support and important information during a power cut.

🌻💛 Not All Disabilities Are Visible 💛🌻

At Riverside Support Service, we believe that everyone deserves to be understood, respected and supported, no matter what their struggles may look like. 💜

Some disabilities cannot be seen on the outside. Hidden disabilities can affect how someone feels, communicates, moves around or manages everyday life. Someone may look absolutely fine, but that doesn't mean they aren't facing challenges that we cannot see. 💙

🌻 A little understanding can make a BIG difference. 🌻

Whether someone is wearing a Sunflower Lanyard or simply needs a little extra patience, kindness and support, let's remember that we never truly know what someone else is going through.

We’re incredibly proud to share that Riverside has joined Cornwall Pride Safer Spaces Network! 💜

For us, this is about so much more than a sticker or a badge. It’s about making a clear commitment that everyone deserves to feel safe, accepted, respected and valued for exactly who they are.

🏳️‍🌈 Why does this matter?

LGBTQ+ people and members of other marginalised communities can face discrimination, judgement and barriers when accessing support. Past experiences of being misunderstood, misgendered or treated unfairly can make it difficult to trust services and feel safe asking for help.

Nobody should have to worry about whether they will be accepted in their own home or community.

At Riverside, support should never come with conditions about who you are, who you love or how you identify. 💜

🏳️‍⚧️ What does becoming a Safer Space mean?

💜 Welcoming LGBTQ+ people and marginalised communities without judgement.

💜 Challenging discrimination, prejudice and harmful behaviour.

💜 Promoting inclusion, understanding and allyship within our team and community.

💜 Respecting everyone's identity, individuality and dignity.

💜 Helping people access relevant support resources when needed.

💜 Continuing to listen, learn and improve, because inclusion is an ongoing commitment, not a one-off statement.

The Safer Spaces initiative includes a recognisable sticker and digital badge, with a QR code linking people to LGBTQ+ support resources.

We want everyone we support to feel safe being themselves, knowing their identity is respected, their voice matters and they never need to hide who they are to receive kindness and support.

We know trust is earned through our actions, not just our words. Becoming a Safer Space is another important step in putting our values into action.

🌻💛 INVISIBLE DISABILITIES WEEK 19–25 OCTOBER 💛🌻

Not all disabilities are visible, but every person deserves understanding, kindness and support. 💜

This week, we're raising awareness of invisible disabilities and reminding everyone that we never truly know what someone else may be experiencing.

🌻 Did you know?

It's estimated that around 80% of disabilities are non-visible. These can include neurological conditions, cognitive differences, sensory disabilities, mental health conditions and chronic illnesses that aren't always immediately apparent to others.

Someone may look perfectly fine on the outside while navigating challenges that we cannot see. They may be managing pain, fatigue, sensory overload, anxiety, difficulties with processing information or a whole range of other experiences.

💛 What is the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower?

The 🌻 Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple, discreet way for people with non-visible disabilities to indicate that they may need a little extra support, understanding or patience.

You might see someone wearing a sunflower lanyard, wristband or other sunflower item. It doesn't tell you exactly what that person is experiencing, but it can be a gentle reminder to offer understanding and give them the time and space they may need.

🌻 How can we all make a difference?

💜 Be patient if someone needs a little longer.

💜 Offer help without making assumptions.

💜 Be understanding if someone needs to step away from a busy or overwhelming environment.

💜 Listen without judgement and respect individual needs.

💜 Remember that not everyone who needs support will wear a sunflower.

💜 Treat everyone with dignity, kindness and respect.

💜 LET’S BRING OUR COMMUNITIES TOGETHER! 💜

Are you a local business, charity, CIC, community group or wellbeing practitioner offering services that could make a difference to people’s lives? We would love to hear from you! 🌿

My name is Hannah, and I run Riverside Support Service. Supporting people’s wellbeing and bringing communities together has always been a huge passion of mine, and I’m really excited to be launching something new!

✨ Introducing our Pop-Up Wellbeing Workshops! ✨

Our first event will be taking place in Mawnan Smith on Sunday 6th December, from 12 noon until 2pm, with the hope of taking these workshops to rural villages and towns across Cornwall in the coming months.

The idea is simple: bring together the wonderful people, organisations and businesses who offer valuable services, support and treatments within our communities, and help local residents discover what is available right on their doorstep.

We all know there are incredible people doing amazing things, but sometimes people simply don't know where to turn or what support is out there. I want to help bridge that gap, making it easier for people to find the information, services and support they need.

💜 AND THE BEST BIT? THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR A TABLE! 💜

I'm inviting local businesses, charities, CICs, community groups, wellbeing practitioners and support organisations to come along, showcase what they do and connect with local people who may benefit from their services.

These workshops aren't just about reaching residents, either. I'd love them to become an opportunity for businesses and organisations to network, share knowledge, build relationships and explore ways we can support one another.

I'm particularly keen to involve people who provide services within the areas where we hold our events. If you cover several local areas, even better!

Initially, I'm testing the waters and gauging community interest, with the hope that these workshops could develop into a bi-monthly event, visiting different rural communities across Cornwall.

My vision is to create stronger, more connected and inclusive communities where people feel informed, supported and empowered, while celebrating the amazing people and services we have around us. 💜

💜 The Adventures of Helen & P! 💜

Every adventure tells a story, and this week’s was a particularly special one. 🥰

Our wonderful Support Worker Helen and P enjoyed a lovely trip to Trevenna Cross Garden Centre, followed by a shopping trip to Tesco. 🌿🛒

For P, this was about so much more than a trip out. Having shopped independently for many years, being able to enjoy this experience again, with the right support alongside them, made it a truly beautiful and meaningful day. 💜

At Riverside, we believe support isn't about taking over. It's about walking alongside someone, building confidence, creating opportunities and supporting them to continue doing the things that matter to them.

It's about independence, choice, dignity and those little moments that can mean the world. ✨

We're so proud of Helen for supporting P to enjoy their day at their own pace, and we're delighted that P could make some lovely memories along the way.
