Our menopause expert, Dr Louise Sears, is fully accredited by the British Menopause Society as a specialist in menopause care. Dr Louise offers hour-long appointments, so she will have plenty of time to listen to your symptoms and discuss your options.

Dr Louise has completed advanced training in menopause, which means she can manage your menopause even if you have a complex medical history such as breast cancer, or if you've already tried other menopause treatments without success.

Good afternoon! We've had a busy few days outside of work: we went to the Southport Food & Drink Festival on Saturday (pictured), then I went to the Formby First - Networking event on Tuesday morning. Running a small business is hard - around 60% of small businesses fail in their first 3 years! - and it's lovely to have a supportive group to bounce ideas off. Do come along if you run your own business.

The office is closed this afternoon, and will be closed tomorrow afternoon, as Sasha is on holiday. Our phone lines are still open - we use an off-site call handler (the excellent Face for Business in Burscough) to cover us when our team can't get to the phone.

Really helpful to have such clear guidance from the UK National Screening Committee advising against screening for prostate cancer.

Many celebrities including former Prime Ministers may be disappointed, but those of us who know a bit about screening understand that it (doing tests in people with no symptoms or risk factors) very often causes more harm than good.

We would need to test 1,000 persons with a prostate to prevent just 2 people dying from prostate cancer. Many would have treatments including radical surgery and suffer complications.

The only group the UKNSC recommend PSA screening in is those with prostates who have the BRCA2 gene and a family history of certain cancers.

For example, there are effective drug treatments available for those having difficulty passing urine, usually unrelated to any cancer.

I had another lovely night at the Read Between the Wines book club last night. This month's book was Black Water Rising by Sean Watkin - it's a crime thriller set in Liverpool and it is an absolute delight to read! It's such a joy to read a book which is set in familiar local places. There's even a murder in Formby pinewoods! Sean came along to our meeting last night and very patiently answered our questions. Wow - what a glorious day! We walked to the beach via Fisherman's Path - it's so much quieter there than near the car parks. We live on the eastern side of Formby, so it was a 5 mile round trip!

John's mum Liza arrived this morning, to help with childcare over half term. We will be offering our GP clinics as normal this week. Sasha is away on holiday, though, so the office may be closed earlier than usual in the afternoons - if you're planning to pop in to collect something, do email or phone us first.

We still have availability every day this week - at the time of writing I still have two appointments available on Tuesday 25th May.
