Today, we remember and honour the extraordinary bravery of those who took part in the D-Day landings on 6 June 1944.

As we reflect on their legacy, we pay tribute to all those who served, those who gave their lives, and the generations whose futures were shaped by their actions.

A huge thank you to Gillian Martin MSP for taking the time to meet with us and learn more about the work we do at DriveAbility Scotland.

We were delighted to showcase our adapted demonstration vehicle and discuss how our services help people across Scotland maintain or regain their independence behind the wheel.

From driving assessments and vehicle adaptation advice to supporting people with disabilities, age-related conditions, or life-changing health events, our goal is to help individuals continue driving safely and confidently wherever possible.

We also provide specialist driving assessments on behalf of the DVLA, helping drivers understand their options and remain mobile after significant changes to their health.

It was a pleasure to share how these services are making a real difference to people's lives across Scotland.

Thank you again, Gillian, for your interest and support in promoting accessible mobility and independence for all! 💙

🧠💜 June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month 💜🧠 We are raising awareness of Alzheimer's disease, dementia and other conditions that can affect brain health, memory, concentration, decision-making and, ultimately, the ability to drive safely.

At DriveAbility Scotland, we understand that concerns about driving can be one of the most difficult and emotional challenges faced by individuals and their families following a diagnosis.

Driving is often closely linked to independence, confidence and connection to the community, which is why it's so important to have access to professional, impartial advice.

Our specialist Fitness to Drive Assessments are designed to provide a clear picture of an individual's driving ability, helping people make informed decisions about their future mobility.

Our clinically led assessment team includes:

👩‍⚕️ Experienced Occupational Therapists

🚗 Specialist Driving Assessors

📝 Comprehensive assessments with personalised recommendations

🤝 Supportive, person-centred advice for individuals and families

We work with people living with a wide range of neurological conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Parkinson's disease, stroke and acquired brain injuries.

A driving assessment isn't about taking away independence, it's about understanding what support may be needed to maintain it safely for as long as possible.

Whether that means continuing to drive, exploring vehicle adaptations, undertaking refresher training, or considering alternative mobility options, we're here to help every step of the way.

💙 World MS Day 2026 💙

A diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis can bring uncertainty and new challenges, but it doesn't have to mean losing your independence.

This World MS Day, we're celebrating the resilience, determination and achievements of people living with MS and highlighting the life-changing impact that the right support can have.

David was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting MS in 2004. As his condition progressed, he needed to explore vehicle adaptations that would allow him to continue driving safely and independently.

David attended an assessment with DriveAbility Scotland at our Inverness outreach facility and throughout the assessment process, David felt supported, reassured and empowered by our team.

🗣️ "They were incredibly supportive throughout the entire process. I'm still getting used to being out and about in my wheelchair, but I felt reassured every step of the way."

Most importantly, the assessment helped David see a clear path forward.

🗣️ "Afterward, my endorphins were through the roof. I knew I was finally going to get what I needed, and I can't put into words how elated I felt knowing my independence was within reach again."

His message to others living with MS is simple:

🗣️ "If you have the opportunity, just do it. If you want your independence, don't hesitate - it's absolutely worth it."

At DriveAbility Scotland, we know that driving is about much more than getting from A to B. It's about freedom, confidence, connection and maintaining independence.

This World MS Day, we're proud to support people across Scotland to stay mobile, active and connected to the things that matter most. 💙
