A generation apart can still mean plenty in common.

This International Friendship Day, CHD Living is proud to celebrate its long-term partnership with Adopt A Grandparent and the friendships it helps create between older people and volunteers.

Through regular conversations and shared experiences, people who may never otherwise have met form genuine relationships. Both individuals gain something from the connection, whether that is companionship, a fresh perspective, encouragement or simply someone they look forward to speaking with.

As sponsors and users, we are so proud of Adopt A Grandparent as it reaches more people and creates more opportunities for meaningful friendships across generations.

Today, we are celebrating every introduction that became a conversation, and every conversation that grew into something lasting.

A lovely moment for Crest Lodge Care Centre and CHD Living, as Krasi Petrova joined Year 7 and 8 pupils at Woolmer Hill School for their Proud to Dream event.

Krasi, Manager at Crest Lodge Care Centre, spent time with students sharing her journey, her role in care and what inspires her about making a difference in people’s lives.

The event encouraged pupils to think about their futures, their potential and the many different paths open to them.

Krasi said it was a privilege to speak with the students and share the work she does with CHD Living:

“Care is about people. It is about kindness, patience, teamwork and making a difference every day. If even one pupil left feeling more confident about their own potential, or more aware of the positive impact they could have in the future, that is very special.”

A huge thank you to Woolmer Hill School for inviting Krasi to be part of such an inspiring event.

Choosing dementia care can feel like one of the hardest decisions a family will ever make.

There is the practical side: understanding what support is needed, finding the right setting, asking the right questions. Then there is the emotional side, which is often much harder to put into words. Will they be understood? Will they settle? Will they still feel like themselves? Will we still feel part of their life?

At Surrey Heights Dementia Care Centre, those questions are taken seriously.

The home supports people living with dementia, with care shaped around each person’s needs, routines, history and family connections. The team understands that dementia care is not only about keeping someone safe. It is about helping them feel known, included and supported through the changing shape of daily life.

Surrey Heights has newly appointed rooms, gardens and a terrace, giving residents and families calm, comfortable spaces to spend time together.

The home also offers a day retreat, seven days a week, from 10am to 3pm, for people who may benefit from companionship, lunch, wellbeing activities and support from an experienced dementia care team while continuing to live at home.

For some families, a day retreat can be a helpful first step. For others, residential care may offer the reassurance they need when home is becoming more difficult to manage.

Whatever stage you are at, the Surrey Heights team is there to talk it through with honesty, warmth and understanding.

Give us a call on 01428 682734, we are here to help.

A proud moment for CHD Living as we presented a fundraising cheque to Younger People with Dementia, following months of brilliant effort across our services.

Pictured are Charlotte Wareham, Jean-Pascal, Manager at Surrey Heights Dementia Care Centre, and Rachelle Barnett, Trustee at Younger People With Dementia, marking a contribution made possible by our team members, residents, families and supporters.

From taking on the 5k inflatable challenge to hosting fundraising activities across our homes, everyone involved has helped raise money for a charity doing vital work for people living with young onset dementia and their families.

Young onset dementia can affect people at a stage of life when they may still be working, raising children, planning for the future and trying to make sense of a diagnosis that changes so much. The support offered by Younger People with Dementia matters deeply, and we are proud to stand alongside them.

A huge thank you to everyone who walked, bounced, donated, organised, cheered and got involved. This cheque represents more than fundraising. It represents care, community and the belief that no one facing dementia should feel they are facing it alone.

There was a real party atmosphere at Crest Lodge Care Centre as resident Alice celebrated her 90th birthday.

Alice was treated to decorations, music, birthday celebrations and her very own birthday crown, which quickly became one of her favourite parts of the day. Family, residents and team members all came together to make sure she felt properly celebrated.

Born in Rathfarnham, County Dublin, Alice has always loved music, singing, dancing and a good party. She has sung in choirs, travelled widely, enjoyed many family adventures and is known for loving any occasion that brings people together.

Her advice for living to 90 says a lot about her: “Be positive, be kind to others, laugh and be friendly.” And her message to younger people is just as straight-talking: “Go for it. Whatever you want to do, have a go. Don’t smoke.”

Happy 90th birthday, Alice. Everyone at Crest Lodge Care Centre was delighted to celebrate with you.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at Bagshot Park Neurorehabilitation Centre yesterday for our 'Case for Space' Lunch & Learn, hosted in partnership with Remedy Healthcare UK (https://www.remedyhealthcare.co.uk/).

It was a pleasure to welcome our guests to CHD Living for an afternoon of collaboration, discussion and a behind-the-scenes look at how integrated rehabilitation services can deliver better outcomes for patients.

Guests enjoyed small group tours across five locations within our service, each showcasing a different aspect of the rehabilitation journey through expert talks and interactive themed activities. Despite the soaring temperatures, the energy and engagement throughout the day was fantastic!

Together with Remedy Healthcare UK, we explored:
📍 Five compelling reasons to consider residential rehabilitation for patients preparing for discharge, living at home, or already accessing community or outpatient services.
📍 How CHD and Remedy Healthcare work seamlessly together to provide joined-up, specialist rehabilitation pathways.
📍 The future potential of integrated neuro and MSK specialist services operating under one roof to provide more comprehensive, patient-centred rehabilitation solutions.

Congratulations to our competition winners:
🏆 Edward Holdstock
🏆 Emily Boothman
🏆 Francesca Krauze
🏆 Charlotte Mason
🏆 Belinda Smart

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the event such a success. We look forward to continuing the conversation around collaborative, specialist rehabilitation and the positive impact it can have on patient outcomes.
