๐Ÿด๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ Road Safety in Action! ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿด

Our young people were out and about putting their road safety and horse handling skills into practice while enjoying a walk with Sam. ๐Ÿ’š

Leading horses on public roads and tracks requires teamwork, communication, awareness and responsibility. Our students learn how to keep themselves, the horse and other road users safe while developing confidence and practical life skills.

The high-visibility โ€œPlease Slow Downโ€ vests help increase awareness for drivers and encourage considerate passing, helping to create safer experiences for everyone sharing the road. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ

Roadwork isnโ€™t just about walking a horse โ€” itโ€™s about learning to assess situations, communicate effectively, stay calm under pressure and work together as a team. These are valuable transferable skills that support young people both in education and everyday life.

Of course, Sam took it all in his stride and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure! ๐Ÿดโค๏ธ

Learning doesnโ€™t always happen inside four walls. Sometimes the best classroom is the great outdoors.

๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿด First Aid Tick Removal! ๐Ÿด๐Ÿฉบ

Whilst grooming and carrying out a health check on Sam, one of our accredited equine education students spotted a tiny tick attached to him.

The tick was safely removed using the correct tool, the area was cleaned and silver salve balm applied afterwards. A fantastic example of attentive horse care and the importance of routine grooming and daily health checks. ๐Ÿ‘

At TEAL CIC our students learn real, hands-on equine care skills that support horse welfare, confidence, responsibility and practical learning.

Ticks may be tiny, but spotting them early is incredibly important for horse health and wellbeing. Well done for such brilliant observation skills and calm handling! ๐ŸŽโœจ

Learning through real life experiences is what alternative education is all about. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ’› From Rescue Hens to Loved Hens ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ”

Our students absolutely love spending time caring for the hens here at TEAL CIC. ๐Ÿฅฐ

Many of our girls are rescue hens who originally came from commercial farming environments. Sadly, without rescue spaces, many hens like these are destined for low welfare outcomes once they stop laying commercially.

Now, they spend their days doing what hens should doโ€ฆ scratching around in the dirt, dust bathing, sunbathing, exploring, being gently cuddled and enjoying a peaceful, enriched life surrounded by kindness and care. ๐ŸŒฟโ˜€๏ธ

Animal care is such an important part of our outdoor alternative education provision. The young people take part in:
๐Ÿ“ Cleaning and maintaining the hen house
๐Ÿ’ง Refreshing food and water
๐Ÿชต Topping up bedding and woodchip areas
๐Ÿฅš Collecting eggs
๐Ÿงน Keeping the environment clean and safe
โค๏ธ Building trust and confidence through gentle handling and interaction

Working with rescue animals helps our students develop empathy, patience, teamwork, responsibility and communication skills. For many young people, animals can help reduce anxiety, support emotional regulation and create a calm, therapeutic environment where they feel safe and valued.

There is something incredibly special about watching previously unwanted hens become loved, cared for and part of the TEAL family. ๐Ÿ’œ

And judging by the cuddles afterwardsโ€ฆ we think the hens are very happy with their new life too ๐Ÿ”โœจ

Great info here! Loving Swedenโ€™s laws!

๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿด Horse welfare standards vary around the world, but they all share a common goal: supporting the physical health, mental well-being, and natural behaviors of horses.

Some countries have regulations around turnout time, social interaction, transportation, feeding practices, air quality, stable lighting, and even whether whiskers can be trimmed. These guidelines are designed to help improve equine welfare and encourage evidence-based management practices across the industry.

To help make this information more accessible, we created the Global Horse Welfare Database, a free resource that compiles equine welfare laws, regulations, and recommendations from countries around the world.

The database allows horse owners, caretakers, veterinarians, coaches, and industry professionals to explore how different regions approach a number of topics.

Welfare science continues to evolve, and understanding global standards can help spark important conversations about best practices in horse care and management.

๐Ÿ“šโœจ Learning looks different at TEAL CIC โœจ๐Ÿ“š

Not every classroom has to look the same.

Here at TEAL CIC our students combine practical outdoor learning with accredited coursework inside our amazing Boxclever education station โ€” creating a calm, supportive and engaging space where young people can learn in ways that work for them. ๐Ÿ’š

From:
๐Ÿ“ Coursework & portfolios
๐ŸŽจ Creative projects
๐Ÿ“š Functional Skills
๐Ÿด Equine studies theory
๐Ÿ’ป Research tasks
๐Ÿค Group discussions
โœจ Confidence building activities

โ€ฆour students are developing not only qualifications, but also independence, communication skills, resilience and self-belief.

The Education Station has become such an important part of our provision โ€” offering:
๐ŸŒฟ A quieter regulated learning environment
โ˜€๏ธ A safe base between outdoor sessions
๐Ÿง  Space for focus and concentration
๐Ÿค Opportunities for teamwork & social interaction
๐Ÿ“– Structured accredited learning alongside hands-on practical education

We are incredibly grateful to for creating such a fantastic learning space for our young people. It has truly transformed how we deliver education onsite.

One thing we love most is seeing students who may have struggled in traditional classroom settings begin engaging, creating, achieving and taking pride in their work again. ๐Ÿ’š

Because education is not one-size-fits-all.

Sometimes all a young person needs is the right environment, the right support and people who believe in them. โœจ
