This week we met with Lucy the founder of L Magazine which has been inspired by her daughter Scarlett. Through their own lived healthcare experiences they have created a magazine for children and young people with the aim to provide something that gives them a sense of connection, creativity and belonging. They have kindly offered to donate a number of magazines with the monthly subscription covered for 12months.

They are also donating a number of 'L's Little Lift' boxes for children and young people who may need a little lift after a procedure or a longer admission. These boxes are kindly funded by local business sponsorship and full of a variety of carefully selected screen free activities.

The Play Team look forward to working Lucy and continuing to provide meaningful resources to boost the wellbeing and self esteem to our patients on Skylark Ward L magazine box

Happy International Day of Friendship!💛
Today our patients have been celebrating friendship by playing games, making friendship bracelets and creating cards for their friends😊

It will be a day full of kindness, smiles and learning what it means to be a good friend. 🥰

Thank you to Northamptonshire Health Charity for funding our new Sky Tiles and to long time supporter Allan from Sky Inside who installed the system for us.

The digital tiles which can show blue skies, nature scenes, underwater scenes and gentle lighting, will help us to support patients by providing distractions during procedures and giving something calming for children to focus on.

Today we are celebrating Global Tiger Day in the play team. We're learning fascinating facts about tigers and what we can do to help tigers in the wild. We will also be making tiger crowns, masks and other crafts and have a tiger themed small world play.

Welcome to our new page for the Kettering General Hospital Play Team!

We will be using this page to share updates about the work we do as registered Health Play Specialists to support our youngest patients at KGH.

Our dedicated team, based on Skylark ward, creates a welcoming child friendly environment where play is used to promote understanding, reduce anxiety and improve hospital experiences.

We use therapeutic and developmental play techniques to help children and young people to understand their illness, treatment and time in hospital. Through age appropriate play and activities we support our patients to express their feelings, develop coping strategies and gain a sense of control during what can be an unfamiliar time. Through preparation, distraction, post procedural play and emotional support we help to make potentially stressful healthcare experiences into opportunities for confidence, resilience and positive outcomes.
