All smiles at our annual volunteer celebration event! ✨

On Wednesday 3 June, we were delighted to come together and recognise the incredible contribution of our volunteers. Their compassion, commitment and generosity make a real difference every day.

A huge congratulations to our award winners who were recognised at the event for their outstanding care, support and dedication:

🏆 Stuart Lake – KGH Staff Choice Award
🏆 Yvonne Thompson – NGH Staff Choice Award
🏆 Michael Leonard – NGH Volunteer Choice Award
🏆 Bernie Taylor – KGH Volunteer Choice Award

Each of them truly goes above and beyond to support patients, colleagues and visitors — and we couldn’t be more grateful.

A big thank you to all our volunteers for everything you do, and to our event sponsors Jarrolds and Northamptonshire Health Charity, for helping make this celebration so special. 👏

We're proud to announce the recruitment of the first participant into the EASi-KIDNEY study.

The study is investigating a potential new treatment for chronic kidney disease and represents an important opportunity to contribute to research that could improve outcomes for patients in the future.

This milestone highlights the vital role research nurses play in supporting participants throughout their research journey and the collaborative efforts of our Research and Innovation and clinical teams.

Thank you to the participant who has chosen to take part and help advance our understanding of kidney disease.

We're proud to have signed a pioneering fire safety concordat with Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, strengthening our commitment to protecting patients, visitors, staff and our hospital buildings.

The agreement formalises the strong partnership that already exists between our organisations and will support closer working on fire prevention, risk assessment, training and continuous improvement. Together, we'll continue to share expertise, learn from incidents and identify practical ways to enhance fire safety across our sites.

As one of the first agreements of its kind between an NHS trust and a fire service outside London, this partnership demonstrates how collaboration can help create safer environments for our patients, colleagues and communities.

A huge thank you to the team at Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service for their continued support and partnership.

University Hospitals of Northamptonshire is supporting recruitment to the EASi-KIDNEY clinical trial, an international research study investigating a potential new treatment for people living with chronic kidney disease.

The study aims to explore whether this treatment could help slow the progression of kidney disease and reduce the likelihood of patients needing dialysis in the future.

Recruitment opens today, and we are inviting eligible patients with chronic kidney disease who are not currently receiving dialysis and have not had a kidney transplant to find out more about taking part.

Research studies like EASi-KIDNEY are helping to shape the future of care and improve outcomes for patients living with long-term conditions.

If you're interested in this research, please contact the Research and Innovation Team in Area J in Northampton General Hospital, on extension 5941 or email [email protected].

We recently held our annual dementia awareness day. This is a regular event we hold through dementia awareness week, with the aim of helping those living with dementia and their loved ones with a way to find help and support.

Organised by Neena Q**m, Lead Dementia and Delirium Nurse based at NGH, this year we were hosted by Weston Favell library.

Neena said “It was a really successful day. Having worked with people with dementia I know that it can be overwhelming when people first have the diagnosis. This year we saw lots of people visit the stands and talk to the exhibitors”.

We’d like to thank the organisations who attended on the day and everyone who visited to find out more about dementia and of course lovely team at Weston Favell Library”.

The event also had an uplifting performance by the Growing Together choir who performed on the upper level of the mall. This was enjoyed by the shoppers and our attendees, and gave everyone an excuse to sing along with their medley of songs.

If you have further questions about dementia care at NGH please visit our website.

Our volunteers make an incredible difference - every single day. 💙

Across Northampton and Kettering General Hospitals, volunteers are supporting patients, helping colleagues, and bringing kindness when it matters most. Their impact is so powerful, it’s inspired our own colleagues to write poems about them - like this one from Olivia in Respiratory Diagnostics at NGH.

Together we can make a real difference - and our volunteers show us exactly how. As we approach Volunteers’ Week (1–7 June), could this be your moment to get involved?

We’re currently looking for Response and Ward volunteers across both hospitals.

👉 If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, now is the time
👉 Join us, make a difference, and be part of something special
