What a fun-filled couple of days we've had here at Ghyll Royd Care Home! 🧡✨

Our residents were thoroughly spoiled on Friday afternoon with a luxury hot chocolate and popcorn cart visiting the lounges and rooms, bringing delicious warm drinks and sweet treat bags right to everyone! 🍿🍫

The festive excitement carried right into Saturday as our residents and staff got into full costume—complete with hilarious inflatable outfits making the rounds to spread non-stop smiles and giggles! 🎃👻 One of our adventurous residents even joined in on the dress-up fun! 🧙‍♀️ We also put our brainpower to the test with a lively Halloween quiz, followed by a creative afternoon deco-patching pumpkins and painting cauldrons. 🎨✨

This morning, our residents got hands-on making spooky Halloween cookies using melted chocolate and Oreo biscuits. 🍪🎃 Later at lunchtime, when one of our residents asked to spend some quiet time outdoors, we made sure she didn't miss out on the crafting fun by hand-making pipe cleaner flowers together. ❤️ To wrap up the day, everyone gathered for a cosy movie afternoon to watch The Witches with plenty more hot chocolate and popcorn! 🍿☕✨

We are absolutely delighted to announce our 2026 Annual Christmas Appeal! 🎄🎁

✨This year, for the very first time, we simply couldn’t decide between two truly wonderful causes, so we have decided to collect for BOTH of them! 🎅❤️

We are proud to be supporting local adults across our community through two amazing initiatives:

✨ 'CHRISTMAS YAY!' by Missing Peace Wellbeing + Support – This wonderful project provides a festive meal, drinks, and warm companionship on Christmas Day for local adults who would otherwise be spending the day alone. We are collecting gift donations so every single attendee has a special present to unwrap on Christmas Day! 🎁

✨Airedale Hospital Community Charity Christmas Appeal – We are spreading extra festive cheer to local hospital patients by gathering gifts for elderly individuals, ensuring they have a lovely present to open on Christmas morning while in hospital! ❄️🌟

How the appeal works:

We are inviting everyone—our wonderful residents, relatives, team members, and any members of the public- to drop off new, unwrapped gift donations.

🎁 Gift Inspiration:

Chocolates, biscuits, games, socks, gloves, scarves, and gift sets are all fantastic choices! (Please note: no alcohol donations can be accepted).

Donations can be made between now and 10th December at any of our four homes:

It’s time to feature another dedicated face behind the care here at Spellman Care! 🌟

"My name is Kim Knaggs and I’m an Activities Coordinator.

My role is to help residents to access activities in groups or to take the activity to them individually.

I love to make a difference in someone’s day, make them laugh, smile, enjoy themselves and try something new.

It’s important to be there to listen to residents and their families too – I like to think I’m very approachable.

My love of dogs and dog rescue can combine with work when I bring in dogs for pet therapy."

Yesterday, residents set off for a wonderful morning trip to Yeadon Town Hall, where everyone shared warm drinks and delightful conversations. Together, residents chatted about the local cafés they used to visit, bringing back so many happy memories and sharing fond stories from days gone by over plenty of laughter and friendship. Meanwhile, back at the home, residents enjoyed a relaxing morning of therapeutic watercolour painting. Inspiration flowed beautifully, with some painting peaceful seas and skies while others created lovely floral and nature scenes. 🎨

In the afternoon, residents enjoyed a soothing pampering session complete with face masks, beautifully painted nails, and lots of feel-good chatter. It was a lovely way to unwind, laugh together, and enjoy a little self-care. 💅🥰 At the same time, a group enjoyed a special afternoon trip out to Otley Garden Centre. This was organised as a lovely couples’ outing, giving couples the chance to enjoy a change of scenery together outside the home, just like they used to do. Everyone had a wonderful time browsing the colourful displays, looking at the items on sale, trying on cosy slippers, and rounding off the trip with a relaxed sit-down in the café. ❤️

On Wednesday morning, Kim and April hosted the main group exercise session in the lounge, encouraging residents to join in with gentle armchair movements and enjoy some fun physical activity together. At the same time, Rebecca visited residents in the comfort of their own rooms for tailored room-to-room exercise sessions, focusing on light movement, hand-eye coordination, and gentle circulation exercises. Over on Beech, residents spent a fantastic afternoon enjoying one-to-one time and crafts, painting their previously made clay models and creating some truly lovely suncatchers to brighten up the home. ☀️🎨

What a wonderful day of connection, laughter, and treats we have had here at Ghyll Royd Care Home! 🥰✨

When our Tuesday morning nursery children visit was unfortunately cancelled, our team jumped into action with a bit of quick planning to host an impromptu Bingo Bash morning, complete with brilliant prizes for our lucky winners! 🎟️🏆 Afterwards, our residents gathered around the dining table for a warm, nostalgically funny reminiscing session. Everyone loved sharing tales from their childhoods about Bonfire Night, Halloween, Mischief Night, and collecting wood to build bonfires and make a guy—there were certainly a few cheeky stories of childhood mischief that had the whole table laughing! 🪵🔥🎃

We also indulged in some ghoulishly gorgeous autumnal treats, enjoying slices of delicious sticky toffee cake and triple choc chip cake together. 🍰😋

To round off a lovely afternoon, our residents enjoyed relaxing one-to-one room visits featuring soothing hand massages, exploring fresh new scents and lovely wax melts. It was the perfect way to spend a cosy, joyful day filled with good conversation, laughter, and pampering! 🕯️💆‍♀️💖

We have had a busy, creative, and joyful few days here at Ghyll Royd! 🕸️🎨

On Friday, our residents hung their colourful spider suncatchers in the window and loved watching them sparkle and shimmer as they caught the sunlight 🕷️☀️✨ It was such a simple little joy, bringing a touch of magic to the day! 🕸️💛 Everyone also crafted beautiful paper flowers 🌸🌼 There were quite a few steps to work through, but our residents persevered, supported one another, and worked together until they created something truly amazing 💐 In the afternoon, everyone gathered for a fun game of bingo, with resident B on Blossom and resident P on Rowan taking the winning spots! 🎉👏

On Saturday, a few of our residents enjoyed a wonderful trip out to Pudsey Leisure Centre for the Joy-A-Thon, raising funds for local dad Andy Mayers to help secure a specialist HOSS self-balancing wheelchair and speech therapy. It was a lovely afternoon filled with music, laughter, and singing 🎶💃 Resident B had an absolute blast getting spun around on the dance floor in her wheelchair, and everyone made some brilliant memories together! 😊✨ A big thank you to singer Shane Hamill for thinking of us and inviting us along to support such a fantastic cause! 🎤💛

On Sunday, our residents started the morning with an exciting game of Play Your Cards Right! 🃏🏆 There was so much anticipation in the room as everyone cheered each other on and eagerly guessed the cards. In the afternoon, our residents enjoyed a relaxing clay modelling session, where some created brand new designs while others painted and added personality to their creations from last week 🏺🎨

To top off a fantastic few days, our residents enjoyed a lovely sing-along accompanied by a resident's granddaughter 🎤🎹 Everyone then got stuck into carving pumpkins to create a whimsical pumpkin garden 🎃✨ Our residents had so much fun making them, and they are now proudly displayed in the lounges for everyone across our home to enjoy! 🧡🌟

Life has been full of smiles, laughter, and wonderful moments at Ghyll Royd Care Home over the past few days!

🍰 On Wednesday, our lovely resident J celebrated his birthday! He could not wait to get stuck into his birthday cake and enjoy a cheeky beer—wishing you the happiest of birthdays, J!

🧠 Wednesday morning saw our residents put their thinking caps on for a fun quiz and games session. We covered everything from general history and traditional British food to animal facts, giving everyone a great chance to share their knowledge and enjoy a bit of friendly competition. The afternoon kept the lively spirit going with two concurrent games of dominoes, bringing residents together for a relaxed afternoon of socialising.

🎨 Yesterday afternoon was spent getting creative with arts and crafts! Our residents loved spending time together crafting beautiful homemade cards and painting.

☕ We also had a fabulous time out and about yesterday! A trip to Salts Mill in the morning gave residents the perfect setting to relax in the café, chatting about our pets and sharing fond memories of growing up, before enjoying a gentle saunter around the antiques area. To top it off, an afternoon visit to Crag House Farm brought even more warmth and laughter as we caught up with the friendly staff over a hot drink and reminisced about past trips.
