Smart snacking means swap out processed sugary snacks for protein-rich whole food options, here’s why..
Have you heard of the blood sugar rollercoaster?
When we consume sugar and refined carbs, like pasta, bread, pastries, biscuits, cakes, sugary drinks, and alcohol, our blood sugar spikes. This triggers the hormone insulin, which stores excess sugar into fat, when our blood sugar drops, our body secretes stress hormones - cortisol. This leads to mood and energy dips, and can leave us feeling hangry and craving more sugar. When the body is in a stressed state it is more vulnerable to infection too.
If you’re gaining weight around your middle, feel tired a lot of the time, get energy slumps, crave carbs, have brain fogs, get thirsty and p*e a lot, these are all potential signs your riding the blood sugar rollercoaster, which could be impacting hormone balance.
So learning how to balance your blood sugar is key to maintain hormone health, keep your weight on an even keel, energy levels more consistent, fewer mood swings, cravings and better quality sleep.
