Smart snacking means swap out processed sugary snacks for protein-rich whole food options, here’s why..

Have you heard of the blood sugar rollercoaster?

When we consume sugar and refined carbs, like pasta, bread, pastries, biscuits, cakes, sugary drinks, and alcohol, our blood sugar spikes. This triggers the hormone insulin, which stores excess sugar into fat, when our blood sugar drops, our body secretes stress hormones - cortisol. This leads to mood and energy dips, and can leave us feeling hangry and craving more sugar. When the body is in a stressed state it is more vulnerable to infection too.

If you’re gaining weight around your middle, feel tired a lot of the time, get energy slumps, crave carbs, have brain fogs, get thirsty and p*e a lot, these are all potential signs your riding the blood sugar rollercoaster, which could be impacting hormone balance.

So learning how to balance your blood sugar is key to maintain hormone health, keep your weight on an even keel, energy levels more consistent, fewer mood swings, cravings and better quality sleep.

10 Anti-Inflammatory foods to eat daily!

The human body uses inflammation to help fight illness and limit further harm. In most cases, inflammation is a necessary part of the healing process.

However, sustained or chronic inflammation can lead to weight gain, digestive issues and a range of inflammatory diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer. Any condition ending with "itis" (arthritis, dermatitis, sinusitis, ulcerative colitis) means inflammation. So these foods are for you!

Research shows that a significant contributor to chronic inflammation comes from what we eat. Swapping out inflammatory foods for their anti-inflammatory counterparts is a great way to improve overall health and well-being.

Here are my 10 top anti-inflammatory foods to eat daily!

What are your favourite ways to eat these?

Mental clutter? Too many tabs open? Disorganised? Forgetful? Easily distracted? Or bad with follow-through? ... It is very easy to interpret this pattern as a motivation problem or a discipline issue. But that explanation does not fully account for what is happening.

ADHD has shifted, from something most people associated with hyperactive children to something that is now part of everyday conversation. Shifts in hormone levels during the menopausal transition can influence mood, sleep, and cognitive function, sometimes making existing patterns feel more pronounced.

At a basic level, many ADHD brains respond more strongly to interest, novelty and urgency than to importance. Tasks that are important but not immediately engaging can feel surprisingly difficult to initiate, even when there is a genuine intention to do them.

Energy plays a significant role in attention and focus. Long gaps between meals, reliance on sugar or caffeine, or irregular meals can contribute to energy fluctuations that make concentration and decision-making more difficult. Prioritising protein, essential fats and specific nutrients can help restore balance.

In this month's newsletter and blog, I go on a deeper dive into a food-first approach to help calm the ADHD brain & how I support clients in my nutrition clinic.
