Hero Cards

Hero Cards Emotional Strength for Kids. Made Simple. Hero Cards® - The Ultimate Tool for Raising Resilient Kids. That’s when the idea for Hero Cards was born. Science-based.

Hi there 👋🏼

I’m Dr Emmie - psychologist, mum and founder & creator of Hero Cards. As an adult, working as a psychologist in the NHS, I saw the same patterns in the people I treated - struggles that often began in childhood. Our mission is simple: to give kids practical, proven tools to build emotional strength before they experience inevitable life struggles. Because mental health should be about

prevention, not cure. HERO CARDS® help kids understand what they feel - and what to do with it.

Simple. In a box.

Launching soon on Kickstarter in early 2026. Sign up for updates so you’re first to know and can access to preorder discounts.

“Nobody likes me.”

It is the kind of sentence that can make a parent’s heart drop.

You might want to reassure them immediately. Tell them it is not true. Name every friend they have. Fix the whole thing before tea.

But first, stay with what happened.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) often begins by separating the event from the meaning our minds attach to it.

“They played without me” is what happened.

“Nobody likes me” may be the conclusion their hurt reached afterwards.

You do not need to dismiss the feeling or agree with the conclusion. You can help them hold both.

“That sounds painful. Shall we look at what happened and what your brain decided it meant?”

Save these questions for the next difficult school day.

Our favourite review wasn’t the most glowing one.

But it told us something important.

The child recognised it.

The idea wasn’t completely new to her. She had already come across something similar through counselling.

And that’s exactly the kind of bridge we wanted Hero Cards to create.

Not a replacement for counselling.
Not a brand-new psychology theory.

A way to take useful psychological ideas and make them easier for families to explore together through stories, emotions, Power Stealers and Superpowers.

Something that can live at the kitchen table, not only in a therapy room.

If you already have Hero Cards at home, we’d love to hear how you’ve been using them.

Even two honest sentences can help another parent understand whether they might be right for their family.

This comes up more than anything else, so let's answer it properly.

Affirmation cards aren't bad.
They're doing a different job.
They hand a child a thought and hope it lands.

Hero Cards do something narrower.
They take a child through the same five steps every time, so instead of hearing that they're brave,
they get to practise what brave actually looks like on a Tuesday.

Choose a Hero.
Choose a Story.
Name the Emotion.
Spot the Power Stealer.
Choose a Superpower.

Five minutes. No training needed.

The first week back can look surprisingly fine.

And then somewhere around week three, the wheels start to wobble.

Going back to school asks an enormous amount of a child.

Sit still.
Follow instructions.
Read a new teacher.
Work out where you fit in the group again.
Get things wrong in front of people.
Navigate noise, friendships, transitions and expectations.

All day.

And then come home with enough left in the tank to talk about it.

Many children can hold all of that together for a while.

The difficulty often shows up later when the novelty has worn off, the tiredness has accumulated, and there’s simply less left to give.

So if week three suddenly looks harder than week one, it doesn’t necessarily mean something has gone wrong.

Sometimes it just means the tank is empty.

Save this for the week it gets hard. Four questions that work better than "how was school?"
