General Naturopathic Council

General Naturopathic Council The aim of the General Naturopathic Council is to regulate and support naturopathic practitioners in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the public.

As more and more people choose natural healthcare practitioners alongside conventional medical treatments, the public and medical professions are becoming more interested in the safe practice and efficacy of complementary therapies. In conjunction with Skills for Health, the GNC has recently developed National Occupational Standards for Naturopaths. The GNC is currently discussing voluntary self-r

egulation; this is an ongoing process and the site will be updated with the latest developments and achievements.

Continue your professional development with our Understanding Restless Leg Syndrome course.

According to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, it is thought that between 5-10% of adults in the UK, US and Europe suffer from restless leg syndrome, and, sadly, it is not just adults. Symptoms of this condition can vary from being mildly irritating to completely debilitating. It is a problem that is not well understood and often simply not spoken about. This workshop aims to raise awareness of this condition.

As practitioners, we often see ‘restless legs’ listed as a condition on our intake questionnaires, but it is almost never the main reason a client is seeking help and can therefore be easily overlooked. If explored, however, a client will often explain that they thought it was just some quirk that they alone experienced, or that they didn’t think there was anything that might help.
In reality, there is potentially a lot we can do, and the symptom alone may provide clues to better understand underlying factors that may link back to the gut, immune system, s*x hormone balance, and the HPA axis.

This course will take a deep dive into the current literature and explore what is understood about restless legs syndrome: the underlying factors that might predispose a person to this condition, factors that might influence its severity, and strategies we can use to support clients in practice.

The Institute for Optimum Nutrition On-demand CPD Course - Introduction to Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating

Practitioners may struggle to identify eating difficulties early and feel unsure how to adapt traditional nutritional approaches without causing harm, and lack confidence about where their scope of practice ends and specialist support begins.

This course introduces practitioners to eating disorders and disordered eating and the fundamentals of working safely, effectively and with confidence to support these clients. It includes recognizing common presentations, understanding key biochemical imbalances, and applying foundational nutritional, behavioral and psychological strategies to promote a positive relationship with food.

While providing a clear framework for recognising red flags, understanding the underlying biochemical imbalances, and outlining gentle nutritional, behavioural and psychological interventions alongside clinical boundaries, referral routes and plans for further training and supervision, this course is an introductory day and does not constitute sufficient training to practice in this specialist field. Participants will be signposted to appropriate routes for further specialist training and supervised clinical practice.

YorkTest NEW Webinar Series - The Body’s Hidden Language

This three-part webinar series, hosted by Caroline Gilmartin, Principal of the Natural Healthcare College, will explore the fascinating world of constitutional and functional observation, guiding participants to recognise the subtle messages the body reveals through visible features. Each session focuses on a different area, the Eyes, Tongue, and Nails, offering complementary perspectives on how to understand and support individual patterns of health, resilience, and balance.

The introductory session lays the foundation for the series by exploring Iridology, the observational study of the iris. Through examining patterns, colours and structures in the eye, participants will learn how constitutional tendencies and inherited strengths or weaknesses may be reflected in iris features. The session emphasises iridology as a preventative and educational tool, not a diagnostic method, to help recognise genetic and constitutional patterns that influence health and vitality.

The webinar bridges ancient observational practice with modern holistic understanding, providing a basis for applying these insights in personalised lifestyle and nutrition approaches.

Participants can expect to learn how to:
✅ Identify key iris features that indicate constitutional patterns
✅ Recognise how inherited traits influence health tendencies and stress responses
✅ Relate constitutional signs to digestive and detoxification capacity
✅ Use iridology insights to inform practical lifestyle and nutrition choices
✅ Relate constitutional patterns to practical recommendations in diet and lifestyle
