Whilst the structure of my classes is largely āsana based, the heart of them will always be philosophical.

Or, to put it another way, āsana may be the bread of the sandwich, but philosophy will always be the filling.

This year Sammy has been working her way through the teachings of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali as the foundation of what she shares in class.

There are many definitions of yoga, but Patanjali offers one of her favourites - yoga as the nirodha of the citta vrittis — the stilling, settling or restructuring of the fluctuations of the mind.

Recently we’re exploring Sutra 1.12:
Abhyāsa vairāgyābhyāṁ tan nirodhaḥ

A simple but profound teaching on how we begin to settle the mind: through the two pronged approach of abhyāsa (steady, committed practice) and vairāgya (non attachment).

We often get this question: am I good enough to take this course?
And the simple answer is: If the practice called you in beyond the regular class attendance, if you feel drawn to know more, if you feel that you want to share it with others and help them see the incredible potential this practice offers - you are ready❣️
