🚨 BREAST CANCER DOES NOT CHECK YOUR AGE BEFORE IT STRIKES! 🎗️💗

👧🏽 In your 20s?
👩🏽 In your 30s?
👩🏽‍🦱 In your 40s?
👵🏽 In your 50s, 60s, or beyond?

NO woman should assume she is too young or too old to develop breast cancer!

Breast cancer is more common as women get older, but younger women can develop it too. And although rare, men can also develop breast cancer.

💔 The danger? Some women ignore early warning signs because they believe they are too young to have cancer. Others assume that if there is no pain, there is no problem.

PLEASE, DO NOT MAKE THESE MISTAKES!

🔴 WARNING SIGNS YOU SHOULD NEVER IGNORE:
✅ A new lump in the breast or armpit.
✅ A change in the size or shape of your breast.
✅ Skin dimpling or a change resembling the skin of an orange.
✅ A ni**le that suddenly turns inward.
✅ Unusual ni**le discharge, particularly bloody discharge.
✅ Persistent changes in the breast skin or ni**le.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Breast cancer lumps are not always painful. Do not wait for pain before seeking medical attention.

💗 WHAT CAN YOU DO TO PROTECT YOURSELF?

🎀 Know what is normal for your breasts and report unusual changes promptly.
🎀 Follow breast cancer screening recommendations for your age and individual risk.
🎀 If you have a strong family history of breast or ovarian cancer, discuss your risk with a healthcare professional.
🎀 Remember that a normal mammogram does not mean you should ignore a new breast change.

THE MESSAGE IS SIMPLE: EARLY DETECTION CAN SAVE LIVES!

Breast cancer is not exclusively a disease of older women. Young women deserve awareness, older women deserve continued attention, and EVERY woman deserves access to timely assessment and appropriate care.

💬 QUESTION OF THE DAY: What is the biggest misconception you have heard about breast cancer?

🕊️ REST IN PEACE, SIR PATRICK STEWART.

The world mourns the passing of legendary British actor Sir Patrick Stewart, best known for his iconic roles in Star Trek and the X-Men film franchise. He was 86.

His family confirmed that he passed away at his home in Los Angeles following a brief illness involving Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia.

Beyond his remarkable acting career, Stewart's life was a story of resilience, determination and passion. He grew up in a working-class family in England, developed a love for reading at a young age and eventually earned a scholarship to Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, setting the foundation for an extraordinary career.

His passing also brings attention to two serious neurological conditions that affect millions of people and families worldwide.

A HEALTH REMINDER:

Alzheimer's disease and Lewy body dementia are forms of dementia that affect the brain, potentially causing difficulties with memory, thinking, behaviour and everyday activities.

Early recognition, medical assessment and appropriate support can make a meaningful difference in managing these conditions and supporting affected families.

At Total Health Talk, we encourage everyone to learn more about brain health, recognise warning signs and show compassion to people living with dementia.

May his remarkable legacy live on.

Rest in peace, Sir Patrick Stewart. 🕊️

🍬 MYTH OR FACT?

“Brown sugar is healthy, so you can eat more of it than white sugar.”

❌ MYTH!

Brown sugar contains small amounts of molasses, but nutritionally it is very similar to white sugar. Both contribute added sugar to your diet.

The healthier choice isn't simply changing the colour of your sugar — it's being mindful of how much added sugar you consume overall.

🚨 YOUR BODY MAY NOT WARN YOU.

Did you know that high blood pressure often has no obvious symptoms?

A person can feel completely fine while their blood pressure is elevated. That's why regular blood pressure checks matter.

❤️ Remember:
• Don't rely on how you feel to judge your blood pressure.
• Get it checked using a properly fitted, validated monitor.
• Follow up with a healthcare professional if your readings are high.

💬 When was the last time you checked your blood pressure?

Share this reminder with someone you care about.

🚨 FIVE YEARS BELIEVING SHE HAD MS. NOW, SHE’S BEEN TOLD SHE DOESN’T HAVE IT!

💔 Imagine spending five years believing you have a serious neurological disease, undergoing treatment, and learning to live with its devastating effects—only for your doctor to tell you that the diagnosis was wrong.

That is the heartbreaking reality actress Christina Applegate has recently shared.

Known for Dead to Me and Married… with Children, the Hollywood star announced in 2021 that she had multiple sclerosis (MS).

But in a shocking revelation on her podcast, MeSsy, Applegate disclosed that her doctor had told her she did not have MS after all.

And here is the most disturbing part: HER SYMPTOMS HAVE NOT DISAPPEARED!

She continues to struggle with severe physical difficulties, including problems walking, and is searching for answers.

Her story raises an urgent question: HOW CAN A SERIOUS NEUROLOGICAL DISEASE BE MISDIAGNOSED?

🧠 WHAT EXACTLY IS MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS?

MS is a disease affecting the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. It occurs when the immune system attacks the protective covering of nerve fibres, disrupting communication between the brain and the body.

🚨 7 WARNING SIGNS OF MS YOU SHOULD KNOW

1️⃣ Numbness and tingling: Unexplained pins and needles or loss of sensation in the arms, legs or face.

2️⃣ Vision problems: Blurred vision, double vision or painful loss of vision in one eye.

3️⃣ Unexplained weakness: Weakness in the arms or legs that interferes with daily activities.

4️⃣ Difficulty walking: Problems with balance, coordination or walking steadily.

5️⃣ Severe fatigue: Exhaustion that seems disproportionate to activity and affects everyday life.

6️⃣ Muscle stiffness and spasms: Unusual tightness or involuntary muscle contractions.

7️⃣ Bladder problems: New urinary urgency, frequent urination or difficulty emptying the bladder.

⚠️ WHY IS MS SOMETIMES MISDIAGNOSED?

There is no single test that definitively confirms every case of MS.

Doctors combine a patient’s medical history, neurological examination, MRI findings and, when appropriate, spinal fluid tests and other investigations.

Other conditions can produce similar symptoms or MRI abnormalities, making careful assessment essential. Research has documented substantial rates of MS misdiagnosis, although estimates vary between studies and clinical settings.

A crucial lesson: symptoms can be real and disabling even when the original diagnosis turns out to be incorrect.

Applegate’s experience does not mean every MS diagnosis is wrong. It highlights the importance of reassessing a diagnosis when new evidence emerges.

❤️ WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

✅ Do not ignore persistent or unexplained neurological symptoms.

✅ Seek medical assessment if you develop new numbness, weakness, vision changes or balance problems.

✅ If a diagnosis remains uncertain, ask your doctor whether further investigations or a second opinion from a neurologist specialising in MS would be appropriate.

🚑 IMPORTANT: Sudden weakness, facial drooping, difficulty speaking or sudden loss of vision may indicate a stroke. Seek emergency medical care immediately.

💬 THE BIG QUESTION: If someone can live with debilitating symptoms for years and then learn that their diagnosis was wrong, how can we improve the way we diagnose complex neurological diseases?

👇 SHARE this post. It could help someone recognise symptoms, seek medical attention or ask important questions about their diagnosis.

🚨 HEALTH MYTH OR FACT? Can Tracking Your Ovulation Prevent Pregnancy? 🤔

Have you ever heard someone say that once your period ends, you should count 14 days and then you can have s*x without worrying about pregnancy? 👀

Ladies, gentlemen, let's get the facts straight! 🩺

❌ MYTH: You cannot get pregnant once you know how to count your safe days.

✅ FACT: Tracking your menstrual cycle can help you understand your fertility, but it does NOT guarantee that you won't get pregnant.

Here are 3 things everyone should know:

🔹 1. Ovulation doesn't follow the same schedule for everyone. Counting 14 days from the day your period ends is not a reliable way to identify safe days. Ovulation usually happens around 14 days before your next period, although the timing varies.

🔹 2. Pregnancy can happen shortly after your period. S***m can survive inside the reproductive tract for up to 5 days, so having s*x soon after menstruation does not automatically mean you're safe from pregnancy.

🔹 3. Fertility tracking is not 100% effective. Natural family planning methods require careful, consistent tracking and a proper understanding of fertile days. If you're trying to avoid pregnancy, consider reliable contraceptive options and speak with a qualified healthcare professional about what works best for you.

❤️ Remember: Understanding your body is important, but misinformation can lead to unintended pregnancies. Make informed decisions about your reproductive health.

💬 LET'S TALK! Have you ever heard the claim that the first 14 days after your period are unsafe and the days after that are completely safe? What have you been taught about ovulation and safe days?

🌍 WHAT IF A SIMPLE VACCINE COULD HELP PROTECT A CHILD FROM LIFELONG PARALYSIS? 💉💙

Today, October 24, we mark World Polio Day — a powerful reminder that every child deserves the chance to grow, play, walk, and live a healthy life. 🌍💚

Polio is a highly infectious disease that can cause permanent paralysis, particularly in young children. But there is hope: polio can be prevented through vaccination.

Here’s how we can all make a difference:
✅ Ensure children receive all recommended polio vaccine doses.
✅ Share accurate information about polio and the importance of immunisation.
✅ Encourage parents and caregivers to follow their local vaccination schedules.
✅ Support global efforts to make polio a disease of the past.

💙 No child should have to suffer from a disease we can prevent. Protecting children today brings us closer to a polio-free world tomorrow.

🌎 One day. One focus. One shared goal: ENDING POLIO.

📢 Your turn: Have you ever encouraged a parent or caregiver to vaccinate their child? Share this post and help spread awareness — because one share could help someone make an informed decision that protects a child's future.

🚨 EBOLA ALERT: 44 PEOPLE TRACED AFTER CASE EMERGES IN ABUJA

Health authorities have reportedly initiated contact-tracing efforts in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, following the confirmation of an Ebola infection.

According to reports, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, announced on Tuesday that 44 people who may have been exposed to the virus have been identified following laboratory confirmation of the case.

🔎 WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

Contact tracing helps health officials identify and monitor people who may have come into contact with an infected person. This is an important step in preventing further transmission and containing a potential outbreak.

🛡️ HOW CAN YOU PROTECT YOURSELF?
✅ Practise good hand hygiene by washing your hands regularly with soap and water.
✅ Avoid direct contact with the blood and bodily fluids of anyone suspected or confirmed to have Ebola.
✅ Do not handle or consume animals found dead or sick, particularly in areas where Ebola is suspected.
✅ Seek immediate medical attention if you develop symptoms after a possible exposure.
✅ Follow official updates and public health guidance from the relevant authorities.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Being identified as a contact does not mean someone is infected. Only appropriate medical assessment and testing can help determine infection status.

📢 Stay informed, remain calm, and avoid spreading unverified information. Public awareness and timely action are essential in protecting our communities.
