We're proud to share that Miss Jane Olver is attending and speaking at the 15th Congress of the International Society of Dacryology & Dry Eye (ISD-DE) in Tallinn, Estonia later this month.

As President of the society, Jane will be joining leading specialists from around the world to share knowledge, discuss advances in dry eye and lacrimal disease, and help shape the future of patient care.

Her lecture will focus on endoscopic DCR (tear duct surgery) and the management of watering eyes - an area in which she has spent decades treating patients, teaching surgeons and advancing clinical practice.

In this video, Jane shares her excitement about the congress, the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and friends, learn from fellow experts, and continue moving the field of dacryology forward.

At Clinica London, we believe our patients benefit when our consultants remain actively involved in international education, research and innovation.

We're looking forward to hearing about Jane's learnings when she returns.

Sometimes the smallest changes can make the biggest difference.

This lovely patient was bothered by eyelid drooping and the heaviness caused by excess upper eyelid skin. She wanted to improve both her comfort and vision ahead of an upcoming family reunion in Greece.

You may also notice the yellow cholesterol deposits around the eyelids, known as xanthelasma.

Her surgeon, Miss Lisa Jagan, carefully planned the procedure to address all of these concerns through one barely perceptible incision line, positioned within the natural eyelid crease. As you can see in the image with the eyes closed, the scar blends discreetly into the natural contour of the eyelid.

The result is a refreshed appearance, improved eyelid function, and a natural-looking outcome.

Most importantly, the patient was delighted with her results in time for her special family celebration.

If drooping eyelids, excess skin, or xanthelasma are affecting your vision, comfort or confidence, book a consultation with our specialist oculoplastic team to discuss your options. https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0vZS3m0

Did you know cataract surgery can sometimes help reduce glaucoma medications too?

Many people think cataract surgery is simply about removing a cloudy lens and restoring clearer vision.

But, here Miss Emma Jones explains how for some patients, it can also create an opportunity to address other eye conditions at the same time.

As part of cataract surgery, certain patients with mild to moderate glaucoma may be suitable for minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), including tiny iStents designed to help improve fluid drainage and reduce eye pressure.

This may help reduce the number of glaucoma drops needed after surgery.

At Clinica London, we also use advanced diagnostic technology to assess whether patients may benefit from different types of lens implants, including extended depth of focus lenses, which may help reduce dependence on glasses for some activities.

Every patient is different, which is why careful assessment and personalised treatment planning are so important.

What actually happens during cataract surgery?

Cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed procedures in the world - but many patients still feel nervous because they don't know what to expect.

At Clinica London, cataract surgery takes place in our dedicated operating theatre and is usually performed as a day-case procedure, meaning you can return home the same day.

Before your surgery, you'll meet the team looking after you and have the opportunity to ask any final questions.

During the procedure:

• The eye is carefully numbed with local anaesthetic
• The cloudy natural lens is removed
• A new intraocular lens is inserted in its place
• The procedure typically takes around 15–20 minutes

Your new lens is designed to last a lifetime.

After surgery, you'll be given eye drops to support healing and attend follow-up appointments to monitor your recovery.

Many patients notice an improvement in their vision later the same day, with further improvement over the following days and weeks.

If cataracts are affecting your vision, book a consultation with our specialist team to discuss your options and whether surgery may be right for you. https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0vSnRr0

“What actually happens during cataract surgery?”

One of the biggest reasons patients delay cataract surgery is fear of the unknown.

In reality, modern cataract surgery is:
• Very commonly performed
• Usually quick
• Typically done under local anaesthetic
• Designed to improve clarity and quality of vision

Most patients are surprised by how straightforward the experience feels once they understand the process.

From consultation to recovery, clear information and specialist care can make the experience much less daunting.

If cataracts are starting to affect your vision or daily life, book a consultation with our cataract team. https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0vFvjl0

What does OptiLIFT actually feel like?

One of the most common questions patients ask before treatment is whether it feels uncomfortable - and the answer often surprises them.

Patients commonly describe OptiLIFT as feeling like:
• Gentle tapping
• Raindrops on the eyelids
• Tiny “sparkly” pulses
• Mild warmth around the eye area

Many also say the second eye feels easier, simply because they quickly adjust to the sensation and know what to expect.

OptiLIFT uses dynamic muscle stimulation to activate the eyelid muscles and improve blink function - helping tears spread more effectively across the surface of the eye.

As we get older, blink strength can reduce naturally. Screen use can also contribute, as we tend to blink less while concentrating. Over time, this can affect tear stability, comfort, and ocular surface health.

OptiLIFT is designed to support:
• Dry eye disease
• Poor blink function
• Mild lower lid laxity
• Ocular surface irritation

If dry eye symptoms are affecting your comfort or daily life, book a consultation with our specialists to find out whether OptiLIFT may be suitable for you. https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0vFsST0

Not every eyelid lump is “just a stye.”

Some eyelid bumps settle on their own. Others persist, recur, change over time, or need further assessment.

As part of Skin Cancer Awareness Month, we want to highlight consultant Miss Michelle Ting who has spoken on the topic of eyelid lumps and bumps - helping educate colleagues on how specialist assessment can identify the difference between common benign lesions and conditions that may need treatment.

Signs worth getting checked include:
• A lump that keeps returning
• Changes in size or texture
• Persistent irritation or crusting
• Bleeding or soreness
• A lesion that simply doesn’t look or feel the same

At Clinica London, our oculoplastic specialists assess and treat a wide range of eyelid lesions, always considering both eyelid function and cosmetic outcome.

If you’re concerned about an eyelid lump or skin change around the eyes, book a consultation with our specialist team. https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0vB4dr0
