At the upcoming FESSH–EFSHT Congress in Basel, we will bring together surgeons and therapists for a combined MDT case forum focused on two joints that can humble even the most experienced clinicians: the PIPJ and DRUJ.

A few days focused entirely on thumb base arthritis at the World International CMCJ Congress.

Good to be part of the scientific committee and open the first session with other surgeons driving innovation in this space.

We all see the same problem in our clinics,
we just don’t treat it the same way.

A simple observation:
• pain is almost always there
• but what limits patients isn’t always the same
• and that tends to matter more than the X-ray

As arthroplasty evolves, it feels like the conversation is shifting - from which implant to which patient, and why.

Good discussion. Plenty of challenge. Still a lot we’re working through.

Same X-ray ≠ same decision.

A privilege to be invited to Poznań for the annual Hand & Wrist Course. Thank you to Piotr Czerniecki for the warm hospitality.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr Clara Wong Wing Yee.

I first met Clara in 2014 at Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong, where she was part of Professor PC Ho’s Hand Unit. Even then it was clear she was exceptional. She grew into a gifted hand and wrist surgeon with a deep commitment to wrist arthroscopy and scaphoid surgery.

She kindly accepted my invitation to the Cardiff BSSH Meeting in October 2016, travelling to share her experience through several lectures on arthroscopy and scaphoid nonunion. I remain grateful that she came.

Beyond her professional achievements, Clara was warm, generous and humble. A truly lovely person who carried her talent lightly.

She died young on 26.2.26 after a two year battle with lung cancer. Her passing is a profound loss to her family, her colleagues in Hong Kong, and to our wider hand surgery community.

I feel privileged to have known her.

Rest in peace, Clara.
