You don't have to gaze adoringly at every nappy.
You're allowed to find the 4am wake-ups bleak.
You can scroll your phone during soft play and still be an incredible mum or dad.

What matters isn't the highlight reel. It's the everyday thread of warmth and safety that runs through your relationship with your child.

You can be tired and still be present.
You can be struggling and still be enough.
You can be human and still be exactly what your child needs.

It's 7am. You're not fully awake. You're changing a nappy for what feels like the 400th time this week.

But here's what's also happening:

Your baby is looking up at your face.
You're talking to them — maybe without even realising it.
They're hearing your voice, reading your expression, feeling safe in your hands.

This is connection. This is brain building. This is love in action.
Most of it looks like a nappy change at 7am.

New research out this week confirms what so many parents already feel but rarely say out loud: the early years can be really lonely.

Nearly half of parents with young children in the UK say they feel isolated. And if that's you right now, we want you to know that's not a reflection of the parent you are. It's a reflection of how hard this season of life can be, and how little support many families have around them.

Your baby's brain grows faster in the first year of life than it ever will again.

By age two, it will have reached around 80% of its adult size.

And here's the part we want you to really hear: You are the architect of that development. Not a toy. Not an app. Not a class.

Every time you respond to their cry, mirror their expression, talk to them during a nappy change or hold them close when they're overwhelmed — you are quite literally shaping the physical structure of their brain.

You've got this. 💛

When you say:

Over time, these everyday moments help my brain grow. You don't have to be perfect. You won't always get it right, and that's okay. What matters most is that you keep noticing me, keep trying to understand me, and help me when my feelings feel too big. Every time you tune in to me, you're helping me build the foundations for language, emotional wellbeing, resilience and relationships that will last a lifetime.
