Established in 1908 by Samuel Sheldon, we have served the local area for over a century as an independent, family-run company of funeral directors. Acknowledgement notice for the late Caroline Gibbs

The family of Caroline Gibbs would like to thank all their friends and family for their support over the last month. Caroline would be truly amazed to see all those people who she meant so much to say goodbye at Distington Hall Crematorium. She did face her struggles during her later years, but the warmth shown by all did make a difference.

We would also like to extend a special thanks to Rachel for a wonderful service and Sheldon (Funeral Services) Ltd for their guidance, professionalism and comforting support during a difficult time.

Obituary notice for the late John ‘Oliver’ Hayes.

On May 10th, peacefully at home, Oliver aged 83 years. Loving husband of Lynn, a devoted father to Terri, Vanessa and Eddie, grandfather to Ryan, Jake, Ivan, Ollie, Joey, Max & Gabe, brother, and a good friend to many. The funeral service will take place on Friday 29th May at 2.00 p.m. at St Luke’s Church, Haverigg, followed by burial within the churchyard. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Caroline Gibbs, 63, on the morning of April 26th 2026. Loving wife of John, a devoted mother to Robert, a very dear sister, sister-in-law, auntie, cousin and a good friend to many. Caroline’s love for her family was constant and unwavering, and the memories we shared together will be treasured always.

A talented craftswoman and creator, Caroline found such joy in making beautiful things with her hands and sharing that creativity with friends, often providing a lasting memory for others to cherish. Her artistic nature and thoughtful touch brought happiness to family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Her sudden passing has left a void in the hearts of all those who knew her. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered, with her crafting, keepsakes and mementos living on as a reminder of her compassion, creativity and humility.

The funeral service will take place on Wednesday 20th May at 1.15 p.m. at Distington Hall Crematorium. John and Robert would welcome all who knew Caroline to join the family afterwards to celebrate her life at Brockwood Hall. they also extend this invitation to anyone unable to attend the crematorium, and hope you will join them upon their return.
