Established in 1908 by Samuel Sheldon, we have served the local area for over a century as an independent, family-run company of funeral directors. A great many aspects of funerals have changed over our many years in business however the traditions of integrity and compassion, as laid down by our forebears, remain exactly the same. We operate a 24 hours a day, 365 days a year personal service whic

h starts as soon as contact is made by yourself, whether by telephone or by calling in to our office. At a time to suit you, your funeral director will discuss all the options available in order to ensure that you are completely satisfied with the proposed funeral arrangements. We will take care of all the necessary paperwork, laising with doctors, ministers, caterers and florists so that you are relieved of the burden of making these arrangements yourself at what is a difficult time. We are also proud to offer Golden Charter funeral plans. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ian on July 14th, in Royal Lancaster Infirmary, aged 51 years. Much loved son of John and the late Patricia, Loving brother of Jenny and a dear friend to many. A funeral service will be held at Distington Hall Crematorium, on Thursday 6th August at 12 noon. The family of Julie O'Brien would like to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has shown such kindness, love and support following Julie's passing. Your cards, messages of sympathy, donations, and your presence at her funeral service have been a great comfort during this difficult time. Our sincere thanks go to the wonderful staff at St Mary's Hospice and the Oncology Unit at Furness General Hospital for the exceptional care, compassion and dignity shown to Julie throughout her illness. Your kindness will never be forgotten. We are deeply grateful to Rev. Canon Angela Overton-Benge for leading such a beautiful and fitting service, celebrating Julie's life with warmth and compassion. Thank you also to Laura of Laura's Floral Designs for the stunning floral tributes, and to Angela Fox for the beautiful cakes, which were so thoughtfully prepared, to Jenkie & staff at Bootle Village Hall for providing such a welcoming venue where family and friends could come together and celebrate Julie’s life. Beloved daughter of the late Philip and Sylvia, loving mother of Dale, cherished sister of Philip, Kathleen, Joanne & Janet, much loved Sister-in-Law, Auntie and Great Auntie, devoted partner of Darren, and a dear friend to many. Julie will be fondly remembered for her kindness, warmth, sense of humour, and the love she shared with all who knew her. She touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. The funeral service will be held on Friday 10th July at 11.00 a.m. at St Mary’s Church, Whicham, a private cremation is to take place at a later date. In celebration of Julie’s life, the family kindly invites guests to wear bright colours rather than the traditional black attire.
