‼️Patient notice:

In the interest of patient and staff safety, due to the proximity of the local fires of the smoke, the weather conditions and layout of our building for ventilation we have made the decision to temporarily move our services to millbrook medical practice for the rest of this week. We will monitor the situation closely. Patients can still ring the usual mossley number to speak to staff however all face to face appointments this week will now be provided from millbrook medical practice by mossley staff. Thank you for your understanding.

Given the local fires, please find below some useful advice.

Smoke can irritate your eyes, skin and airways — causing coughing, wheezing and breathlessness. It can also worsen asthma, heart and lung conditions.

Keep yourself safe:
• Avoid areas affected by smoke
• If you can see smoke, stay indoors and close windows/doors
• Tune in to local radio for updates
• Driving through smoke? Keep windows up, vents closed and AC off
• Follow your asthma or health action plan — and speak to your GP or nurse if you don’t have one

Stay safe, Greater Manchester

Firefighters remain at the scene of a moorland fire near Dovestones Reservoir and continue to work with partner agencies to contain the fire and prevent further spread.

Due to strong winds, smoke from the fire has travelled significant distances, with people reporting haze and the smell of smoke as far as Manchester city centre and other parts of Greater Manchester. Residents affected by smoke are advised to keep windows and doors closed where possible.

Please continue to avoid the area to allow emergency services and partner agencies to work safely.

Thank you for your cooperation

With hot weather across the North West this week, it can be tempting to cool off in open water. However, reservoirs are extremely dangerous and are not safe places to swim.

Around 200 people lose their lives in accidental drownings in open water across the UK every year.

Reservoirs are clearly signposted and swimming is prohibited, yet incidents continue to occur. Even during periods of hot weather, reservoir water remains dangerously cold.

Cold water shock can take hold within seconds, making it difficult to breathe, swim, or stay afloat. Tragically, it can be fatal in less than a minute.

As temperatures rise this week, please stay safe, choose designated swimming locations, and stay out of reservoirs.

Take ’s free, confidential. Check your drinking quiz for a clearer picture of your drinking patterns and any potential risks and consider what, if anything, you’d like to do next. Find out more by searching 'Alcohol change'

Please keep hydrated, wear sunscreen and look out for anyone you know who might be vulnerable during this heatwave.

We have limited air conditioning at the practice, our staff are also working hard in the heat, please be patient if you are contacting the practice as heat exhaustion can impact anyone - the staff are encouraged to take additional hydration breaks to look after themselves to help look after our patients☺️

Hot and sunny weather is forecast for the week in the North West

Look out for vulnerable family, friends and neighbours.
